## **`CHAIRMAN'S ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 SEPTEMBER 2022`**

The 2022 HeckingtonShow marked the continuedrecoveryfrom the impactof the pandemicand lock down.We were delighted to
be able to return to our two-day format, and to stage nearly all our regular events.
```

Our"pocketshow"lastyearwasverywell-receivedbutafterathree-yeargapsincethelastfullshow,andthechallengesof the
weatherinpreviousyears,itwasreallyimportantthat2022wasastrongre-launch.Anditundoubtedlywas.Ourtotalgate was
24,000,perhaps suppressed by poor weather on Sunday morning.Whilst not a record,it was our best result since 2016 and was still
the biggest for a villageshow in the United Kingdomthis year. And more than that the show itself was a huge success.All the trade
stand spacewas sold priorto the show,and we were back to a waitinglist,and talkingto tradersa numbersold out of their entire
stock,whichwasexcellent.Andourcompetitionsandeventswerewell-supportedtoo.Aparticulardelightwasthescale and
qualityofourdonkeysection.Tuckedawayinthecollectingringwemightnotappreciatequitehowstrongitis, attracting
exhibitors form as far afield as Lancashire. There is a special feature elsewhere in this report.
```

Theatmosphereacrossthewholeshowgroundwasfantastic,particularlyonSaturdaynightpeoplewhenthousandsenjoyed the
friendly,relaxed atmosphereof Heckingtonas they were entertainedby our Take That tribute,Rule the World.Talkingto people in
theareaandreadingthefeedbackwehavehad,thereisnodoubtthatpeopleenjoyedtheshow-andthey'recomingback next
year and bringing their friends!
```

2022wasundoubtedlyagoodyear,butoneofthegreatstrengthsoftheHeckingtonShowteamisthatwedonotreston our
laurelsand are alwaysworkingto strengthenand improvethe show.The New Field remainsa workin progress,and we appreciate
the work of our Vice Chairman Mark Sardeson as we all work together to deliver conditions suitable for an agricultural show.
```

Aswellasdealingwithchallengesofputtingonashowthisyear,wearelookingtothefutureaswebelievethattheneed for
everythingthe show offersin terms of the opportunityto connectpeople to improvepeople'swell-beingand strengthensocial ties
aswellashelpbusinessesismoreimportantandvaluablethaneverbefore.Oneofourkeygoalsforthefutureistocontinue to
developtheshow'ssocialmediapresenceandmakethemostoftheopportunitiestoengagethroughdigitalmedia.Aswell as
socialmedia sites such as Facebook,we are findingthat increasinglyour visitorsand exhibitorsare engagingwith us on-line,all our
show-jumpingentriesarenowon-line.Wearealsolookingathowwerecruitthenextgenerationofvolunteers,onwhom the
show's continued success will depend.
```

Livingwiththeshowas wedo,it is perhapseasytoforgethowextraordinaryit is,andthatthisisn'ta thingthathappensin most
villagesacrossthe UK each year. We were remindedof this with a specialvisit from BBC's"FarmersCountryShowdown"crew who
filmed not one but two episodes of their programme here at Heckington this year.
```

Andtherecanbenodoubtthatthisisentirelydrivenbythepassionandcommitmentofthevolunteerteamthathave staged
Heckingtonshowforoveracenturyandahalf.Thataround250peoplecomeforwardeachyearisquiteremarkable.And even
moreremarkableinthisverytransientanduncommittedworldisthelong-termdedicationofsomanyoftheteam.Thisyear we
celebrate50yearsofcommitteeserviceoftwoofourmembers,PaulGashandDavidNickolsandwewillbemakinga special
presentation to them at the 2022 AGM. We will also be acknowledging the decades of service of many more of the committee.
```

In summing up this year's show, I can do no better than quote one of or trade exhibitors,who said"Thank you once again to all the
Heckingtonteam for all your time, energy and effortyou have put into such a brilliantshow."Can I add my own thanks to all of our
visitorsfor a job well done. There is no doubt that not only was this show a great success,but once again we have strengthened the
excellent reputation and future of this amazing event.

incomedue to bad weatheror any otherunfortunateeventon the day.One of the principalrisksis the futureof the showground.
Ourpolicyisthereforetoaccumulatecostsofacquiringandservicingashowground.Theseareestimatedtobeintheregion of
£500,000. The reserves policy is reviewed annually.

Due to the level of reserves held, the trustees have no concerns about the charity’s ability to continue to operate in future years.

continuousreviewandimprovement,whichbeginswithourfirstcommitteemeetingaftertheshow.Wehaveidentified the

- `Work with the show ground owners to improve the weather-resistance of the show ground` 

- `Work with suppliers, exhibitors and visitors to manage the environmental impact of the show` 

- `Build our social media profile and enhance digital engagement with exhibits, competitors and visitors` 

- `Develop our systems for recruiting and managing our volunteer team` 

- `Support disabled visitors by providing admission for registered carers`
