- Summary of the purposes Para 1.17 “The object of the choir is the study and of the charity as set out in its practice of choral music, to foster public governing document knowledge and appreciation of such music by means of public performance, and to assist and support such charitable institutions or purposes as the Committee shall from time to time determine” (Section 2a: New Mill Male Voice Choir Rules and Constitution) 2. Para 1.20 | The choir performed at 11 concerts in the reporting period, an increase over 2022/23, taking its music to members of the local community in pursuit of its primary purpose. In undertaking these activities, the choir helped community organisations (churches, schools and charities) to meet their own objectives. In addition, it: a. hosted a fund-raising event to support Hurricane Beryl relief efforts, based on the connection of members to the affected region, which raised £200 from ticket sales (with additional cash donations), b. gave a concert in support of local children’s hospice, Forget Me Not, which raised over £550. The choir contributed to the local community by: a. giving a concert as part of the Holme Valley Arts Festival b. gave a free community concert to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the last woollen worsted mill in New Mill, an important part of the village’s heritage. It also promoted the well-being of its members by meeting regularly for practice and performances and planned social activities which continue beyond choir practice and performance. |

Review of the charity’s Para 1.21 The choir incurred higher costs during financial position at the end the reporting year, resulting from an of the period increase in the fees paid to the choir’s Musical Director and Accompanist (after not increasing their fees for several years). The choir has increased members’ subscriptions to help meet these costs and the embedded costs from inflation in previous years.
