Achievements and Performance
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | The main achievements of the charity in 2021 include: • Raising funds for CWET from grants, fund raising initiatives and individual donations (ad hoc, repeat, Direct Debits etc). • Processing and transferring £120,165 of donated funds through the charity to CWET in Zambia in 2021. This represented 46% of the total income of CWET that year and was a major contribution to the operational and administrative running costs of the organisation. • Administering and collecting Gift Aid on appropriate donations • Promoting the charity and its beneficiary charity in Zambia among the general public • Regularly liaising with the CEO and with the Founding Director of CWET. Assessing CWET monthly management reports to ensure Chipembele Trust’s objectives remain up-to-date and relevant. • Supporting CWET in its achievement as the leading conservation education NGO in Zambia Chipembele Trust’s support of CWET in 2021 helped the organisation to provide an extensive and successful conservation education programme in 31 Government schools and hundreds of local community groups. It also helped provide sponsorship for 34 school students and 13 university students. |

|---|---|---|
| Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held |
Para 1.22 | Chipembele Trust’s expenditure is minimal as the Trustees are all volunteers and do not claim allowances or expenses. Organisational expenditure comprises monthly bank charges and occasional small administrative expenses. The Trustees therefore agreed to aim to maintain sufficient free reserves in unrestricted funds to cover 3 months of the charity’s administrative/bank charges and to assist CWET with any funding shortfall or emergency funding.The Trustees consider that this level would provide sufficient funds to ensure that both governance and emergency support costs are covered. |

|---|---|---|
| Investment policy and objectives including any social investment policy adopted |
Para 1.46 | None |
| A description of the principal risks facing the charity |
Para 1.46 | The trustees have carefully considered the potential risks facing Chipembele Trust. They have concluded that as it is financially and administratively stable it does not face any significant risks. However, the charity it supports in Zambia can be subject to considerable currency fluctuations and high inflation rates (22.8% in 2021) which affect the annual budget and the funds available for operations and programmes. To help mitigate this risk in 2021, the Trustees agreed hold on to the funds during a particularly unstable political time when there were General Elections. Once the new Government was in place the currency exchange rate stabilised and the funds were then sent to CWET. |
