Professional Gardeners, Trust Trustees. annual report Year ended 31 December 2020 The Trustees, who are also directors for the purposes of company law, have pleasure in presenting their report and the financial statements of the Trust for Ihe year ended 31 December 2020. Trustees The Trustees during the year and up to the date of this report are listed on page 2. Objectives and activities The Trust was established for the relief of poverty particulady (but not limited tol by provision of scholarships, grants or other monetary awards to persons engaged in horticulture, in order that they may develop their skills and who are in need of suth aSsislan￿ by reason of their or their family's economic or other circumstances. In setting our objectives and planning our activities. the Trustees have complied with the duty to have due regard to give careful consideration to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit. By encouraging specialist training and the gaining of 9arden skills. the Trust is encouraging a better trained and skilled garden workforce to maintain and develop the nation's gardens for the better enjoyment and appre￿ation by the visiting public and to help increase skills required at Botanic Gardens, colleges, private and public gardens and parks, and in commercial establishmenl. It remains our intention that our work V￿11 expand to help a greater number of gardeners wanting to further their career development. Achievements and perforniance Donations raised a total of £48,390 (2019.. £44,010) and investment income generated further £1,508 {2019'. £1,913). This allowed the Trustees to make scholarships and grants of £55.758 (2019. £47.9581. Structure, governance and management Professional Gardeners. Trust is a Company limtted by guarantee but not having a share capital and is registered as a charity under the Charities Ad 1993. The Trust is managed by its Council of Trustees. Trustees are nominated by the other Trustees. All relire at the AGM and are eligible for re-election. The administration of awards and enquiries is carried out by the Awards Manager. The Trustees meet three time5 a year and delegate ￿rtain duties of the organisation between themselves and the Honorary Secretary and the Honorary Treasurer between meetings. All significant decisions regarding the Trust are taken or confimed at a Trustees. meeting All new Trustees re￿1ve a fomial briefing from the Chairman oftheir duties and responsibilities and re￿1ve various booklets from the Charity Commission and Companies House. They are also encouraged to keep themselves abreast of current and proposed developments in charity regulation through access to the Charity Commission websrte and other relevant sources of information.

Total net expendrture for the year was £9.036 12019.. £576) and the year end net assets amounted to £96,025 (2019.. £105.C61). Risk management The Trustees have considered the risks to which the charrty is exposed and are taking appropriate action. Reserves policy The Trustees review the reserves policy annually to reassess the risks and reflect changes in the environment in which the charity is operating. recognising that rt is vulnerable to economic downturns. Based on an evaluation of the services the charity provides, the Trustees, review of the reserves policy on 8 February 2019 confirmed the Charity should hold unrestricted income funds to meet the budgeted expenditure on both awards and running costs approved by the Trustees for the following year. The unrestricted income fund has reduced during the year to £90,97612019 £99.847) and the fund at 31 De￿rnber 2020 represented approximately 18 rnonths (2019. 24 months) of budgeted expenditure approved by the Trustees for the following year. Professional Gardeners, Trust Responsibilities of the Trustees Year ended 31 December 2020 The Trustees (who are also the directors of Professional Gardeners, Trust for the purposes of company law} are responsible for preparing the Trustees, annual rep)rt, the Chairman's statement and the financial statements in accordan￿ with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting StarKlards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice). Company law requires the Trustees to prepare finanaal statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charrtable company and of the incoming resour￿$ and application of resources. including the income and expenditure, oflhe harilable company for that penod. In prepanng these financial statements, the Trustees are required to.. select surtable accounting policies and then apply them consistently,. observe the methods and principles in the Statement of Recomrnended Practice.. Accounting and Reporting by Charities- make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; state whether applicable UK Accounting Standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disdosed and explained in the financial statements-, and prepare the financial statements on the going con￿rn basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charitable company will continue in operation. The Truslees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that dis¢lose wtth reasonable accuracy al any time the financial position of the Trust and enable them to ensure that the financial slatements comply with the Companies Act 2006. The Trustees are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Trust and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Professional Gardeners Trust Notes to the financial statements Year ended 31 March 2020 Accounting policies General information The charity is a private company limited by guarantee, incorporated in England and Wales (company nurnber 4544242 and charity number 1101169) on 24 September 2002, and is public benefit entity as defined by FRS 102. Its registered office is given on page 1. The accounts are drawn up on the historical cost convention. as modrfied by the revaluation of the investment. Basis of preparation The financial statements have been prepared in accordan￿ with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102). the Companies Act 2006 and the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounls in accordan￿ wrth the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) effective l January 2015. Going concern The Trustees have. at the time of approving the financial statements, a reasonable expectation that the tharity has adequate resOUr￿S to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable fLrture and consider that there were no material uncertainties over the Trust's financial viability. Accordingly, the Trustee5 continue to adopt the going concern basis of accounting in preparation of the financial statements. Fund accounting Unrestricted funds are funds which are available for use at the discretion of the Trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity. Restricted funds are funds that are to be used in accordance with specific restrictions imposed by donors. The aim and use of each restricted fund is set oul in note 7 to the financial statements. Income Voluntary income, induding donations and gifts. is recognised as receivable when the charity has entitlement lo the funds, any perfomiance condib.ons attached to the ilem{s) of income have been met, it is probable Ihal the income will be re￿iVed and the amount can be measured reliably. Investment income and interest on deposrts Is recognised when receivable. Expenditure All expenditure is recognised on an accruals basis as a liability is incurred. Charitable activities include all costs incurred by the charity in the delivery of its activities and services for rts beneficianes. Inveslments Investments are stated at the closing bid pnce at the balance sheet date. Realised gains are the difference between sales prO￿edS and the carrying value of the investment. The carrying value is the fair value at the beginning of Ihe year or the purchase cost where the investment was acquired during the year. Unrealised gains are the change in value of investments after taking into account any movements in investment holdings such as purchases and disposals of investments.
