Masham Sports Association Trustees Report 2022 AGM
The report to the 2022 AGM of the MSA is full of similar messages to the report presented 12 months ago. A year which there was further disruption to the running of the MSA due to the continuation of the pandemic. This year most sports continued as normal but there were still significant impact on the finances of the association due to restrictions on what events could be held in the clubhouse. Although the MSA’s financial position is still healthy and stable we are looking forward to opening-up our facilities to the local community and beyond, so it can be used for celebrations and hires therefore increasing our finances and profits.
The reason we need to increase our finances is because our facilities are in need of upgrading, as the main building now 40 plus years old is beginning to show signs of rpair, upgrade and modernisation. We have had problems with electrics, roofs, drains and alarms in the last 12 months which all require our attention. On the plus side that modernisation has started with improved shower facilities and new doors and windows being completed in the last 12 months. We have a plan to continue this work but we will need continued funding probably both internally and externally to bring our facilities back up to the standards we would want and require.
Disappointingly we have had a number of incidents of vandalism over the last year which is both frustrating and annoying. Although nothing significant it still required action from a number of different people and added unnecessary additional work.
Last year’s report focussed on the need for additional people to come forward and increase our small but hard-working group of volunteers. The faces remain the same and if anything, the work has increased. The Trustees thanks go to those officers of the club and the club representatives who attend the management meetings to assist in helping the MSA run smoothly. We still have vacant posts, and at the moment it looks like they will remain vacant after this meeting. Our hope is that we can recruit some new faces, to help share the work but also to bring new ideas. My thanks also to the volunteers for looking after the bar throughout the year. Working behind the scenes but doing a great job.
Despite the pandemic we are pleased to see that the facilities are being used by other groups in the community and there does some genuine interest from others as well, so that is positive. We hope with the pandemic is behind us and that we can generate more interest in our facilities and get more people involved.
Our three sporting clubs have survived the pandemic and are beginning to build and continue to offer sporting opportunities across all age groups. We are always open to other sporting clubs to join us and it would be great to see our offer increase. As a Sports participation charity we must continue to promote ourselves and increase our offer to our local community
Let’s continue to improve our facilities, get more volunteers, play and enjoy our sport and encourage more people to join us.
