HALIFAX AND DISTRICT TABLE TENNIS ASSOCIATION

TRUSTEES REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MAY 2023

Halifax and District Table Tennis Association is governed by its constitution and is a registered charity number 1100382, registered on 29 October 2003 and amended 24[th] July 2019.

The object of the charity is the promotion of local community participation in a healthy recreation, by the provision of facilities and the promotion of the playing of table tennis within the area of Calderdale.

As with many sports, particularly those regarded as minority ones, we continue to struggle to maintain the numbers of players participating. New, younger players are entering the league as a result of youth coaching but are outnumbered by ageing ones who retire from active involvement.

Coupled with the above is the never ending spiral of cost increases, particularly with utilities which has therefore produced a deficit for the first time in many years. Match fee increases this summer will go a small way to offsetting losses but to continue our facilities being available to all, as a charity, they have been kept to a minimum and other sources of funding need to be pursued.

Fortunately, due to the foresight over the years we have resources to see us to the end of our lease in June 2025, but if table tennis is to continue in Halifax efforts need to be made now to secure its future.

Independent Examiners Report to the Trustees of Halifax and District Table Tennis Association For the year ended 31 May 2023

I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31[st] May 2023, which are set out on page 3.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

Basis of independent examiner’s report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioner. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and the seeking of explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner’s statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

(a) to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and

(b) to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met; or

to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
