Trustees’ Annual Report
We have pleasure in submitting our annual report and accounts for the year ending 30 September 2023.
The Object of the charity is the advancement of the education and wellbeing of the pupils at The Beacon School by providing funds, items, services and facilities that are not the obligation of any statutory authority to provide.
The Constitution was approved and adopted on 15[th] October 2002, amended in certain respects in March 2009 and again in April and August 2021. The constitution is available on the school website. The organisation was registered as a charity from 5[th] August 2003, having been a small Parent Teacher Association up to that time.
A summary of the fundraising activities and items purchased in pursuit of the charity’s objects during the period is shown in the notes to the Accounts.
The Trustees do not engage in speculative investments and they hold significant funds in interestbearing and current accounts until such time as they are needed.
Funding requests received from the School are approved at the discretion of the Headmaster and the Committee, and then passed to the Trustees for final approval.
Reserves Policy
In normal times, our policy is to maintain unencumbered funds in cash of at least £10,000 to enable the charity to make arrangements for future events.
Within the limitations of the above we aim to purchase items whenever the school has made a request and it has been approved at a Trustees Meeting.

NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS For the year ended 30 September 2023
1. Accounting Policies
The financial statements have been prepared on a Receipts & Payments basis as permitted by charities legislation and in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
2. Stock and other assets
The charity holds minor items of furniture, stationery and consumable stock for use in forthcoming events. The trustees do not consider their valuation material and endeavour to keep such items to a minimum.
3. Fundraising activities
A summary of the activities held during the period and funds raised is shown on Page 5.
4. Charitable Activities
As shown on page 5 funds were expended on a number of projects around the school. Donations were also made to relevant charities
5. Future Charitable Activities
In the 2022 to 2023 financial year, and in addition to the charitable activities listed on page 5 note 2, the charity agreed to donate and fund charitable activities totalling £21,759. The Beacon School did not expend these donations in the 2022 to 2023 financial year and therefore the charity has not yet funded the school. It is likely the school will expend the agreed donations in the 2023 to 2024 financial year. These donations have not been included in the Statement of Assets and Liabilities.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of The Beacon School Parents Society
I report on the accounts of The Beacon School Parents’ Society for the year ended 30 September 2023, which are set out on pages 2 to 6.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
-
examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
-
(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met; or
(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
