Chair of Trustees Report - September 2024 - August 2025
It is hard to believe another year has passed and it is already time to reflect on another year in the life of CICS!
Our Vision Evening in April at Heath United Reformed Church was attended by 40 people who heard exciting stories of how CICS is impacting the lives of young people through our Borough’s schools and colleges. CICS has a voice on SACRE. The valuable investment our workers and volunteers continue to make is making a reality ‘God’s Kingdom come, God’s will be done, in Calderdale as in heaven.’
Opportunities to speak in schools, support staff and attend events such as well being events, faith panels and Freshers’ Fairs continue, much of this organised by Robert’s gentle reminders to schools that CICS is here to support them. Chris continues to offer mentoring in Brighouse High being a vital piece of the support offered within that school with lessons at other schools. Joan retired but she and Steve continue to work at Todmorden High as volunteers with Question Point - a time to connect with dozens of young people.
The Partnership work continues. Chilli Tuesday is the most successful outworking of this with about 50 students and staff from Calderdale College attending a free lunch, chill and games area every Tuesday lunchtime at King’s Church. Neil, from Scripture Union, visited to see Chilli Tuesday in action and to meet with CICS workers and trustees for a catch up and lunch.
Schools continue to welcome us in each year as we distribute copies of ‘It’s Your Move’ to Y6 pupils as they prepare for secondary school. We have many stories to tell of the impact of this and thank all who work hard to make this possible and supported us with time and finance, particularly with a significant donation from the Halifax Rotary Club this year which meant that we covered the cost of the books.
As with many organisations finances are always a challenge. Thanks to Tim who keeps on top of our income and expenditure and works hard to ensure we remain sustainable. We are grateful for the grant from the Diocesan Family and Social Welfare Council and regular and unexpected donations. During the year Sophie resigned as a worker and Martina as a volunteer - we wish them both all the best in their future ventures. This decrease in numbers does, of course, impact the hours we invest into schools. If CICS is to continue to be a representation of the Calderdale Christian community in schools we really do need to see an increase in those church communities who support us in some way.
My thanks again to the trustee team, workers and volunteers. CICS is an amazing organisation that is serving on the frontline reaching those, for whom recent surveys tell us, are part of a ‘Quiet Revival’.

Section A Independent Examiner’s Report
Report to the trustees/ Charity Name members of Christians In Calderdale Schools (CICS) On accounts for the 31 August 2025 Charity no 1097660 year ended (if any) Set out on pages Sections A and B
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31/08/2025. Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have examiner's statement come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
-
the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
-
the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
