Spennymoor Settlement Community Association Report of Trustees for year ended 31 December, 2025 Jt As in the previous year. the predominant item on the agenda was the garden retaining wall at the rear of the Settlement building. It is 99% positive that we will receive the full amount of £35,409 from the heritage side of the £20 million revival fund for the town, but it is proving difficult to get the necessary funds released and the job started. We must thank Malcolm Marsden, treasurer who has liaised with various bodies to pursue this matter. Mr. Marsden has continued to hire out the premises which brings In revenue. Tai Chl classes are provin8 popular,. the adult exercise classes are hit and miss and are held in term time only a5 some attendees are carers for school aged children during holiday times. Also, we need to take in sufficient charges to cover c05t of putting on the class. An art group meets on a Monday afternoon; our Youth Theatre Ss very popular and meets on Friday evenings to rehearse with a very healthy membership. The group produces 213 shows a year, plus are called upon to perform in town events. An exhibition of prints and pictures by sculptor Tisa Hes5 was staged in the Town Hall Art Gallery which proved to be of great interest to visitors. The town council has agreed to house the art works and they will be loaned out to other 8alleries as and when appropriate and with the Executive Committee's approval. We continue to employ a gardener but his servlces come at a prlce and we need to monltor for how many hours we can employ his services. Financial matters.. the treasurer has been looking into the possibility of transferring some of the Settlement funds into a higher rate of interest account which would benefit our finances, and decided to 80 Wlth Redwood Bank. Up to present we are happy with the increased rate of interest. A150, due to the increased cost of maintainin8 our buildings, the Executive Committee decided to revlse hlre charges from I, April, 2025. We continue to generate more funds by members of the Executive Committee running monthly Coffee Mornin8 on the first Saturday of each calendar month, offerin8 a wide range of home baked items. Also, Mr. Marsden booked and oversaw a company which performed a number of pantomime shows in December 2025 generatin8 funds for the Settlement. There is always the need to attract more volunteers and more members into our Association, but this proves difficult. thanks go to the members of the Executive Committee who give of their time to help with various activities. We acknowled8e and appreciate all the hours our treasurer, Malcolm Marsden puts into the life of the present day Settlement. He continues to tackle a multitude of duties to keep the Settlement alive as a thrivin8 Community Centre. Note.. rebuildln8 of the retainin8 8arden wall commenced I, December, 2025 but the lob will not be completed until metal railings are re- attached to the brick wall in sprin8 2026. Watch this space! Finance was secured by Durham County Council approving grant funding to cover the job from UKSPF N.E. Combined Authority.
