Structure, Governance and Management
Governance:
-
The governing document of The Meridale Organisation is its Constitution.
-
The Organisation is constituted as a Charity.
-
Trustees are appointed to serve on the management committee by existing members at an AGM or can be co-opted at a later stage by majority vote, once such an application has been received by the secretary and approved at the following business meeting.
Organisation Structure:
In accordance with the constitution, executive authority is invested fully with the Management Committee. From this group of people, they appoint among themselves a Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Secretary & Treasurer (‘the executive’). The Organisation has a Life President whose main role is to be an Organisation ambassador, to promote the Organisation at any time which is deemed appropriate.
Day to Day Management of the Organisation:
The day-to-day management of The Meridale Centre is invested in the Centre Management Team by the Trustees of the Meridale Organisation. The Centre Management Team is made up of the Senior Centre Manager, Centre Manager and Deputy Centre Manager. They work and make decisions together for the benefit of Meridale. They also have the authority to make decisions alone should it be in the best interest of Meridale on day-to-day matters which may require an immediate response.
Outside Relationships:
The board of trustees continually strives to build relationships with outside bodies. Over the years, Meridale has created great working relationships which include Sutton on Sea Women’s Institute, Sutton on Sea Horticultural Society, Lincolnshire Police and County, District and Town Councils. It is the vision of the Organisation to continually promote Meridale and work with all sectors of the local and wider community.
Objectives
The Organisation’s objectives are (as taken from the constitution):
To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Sutton on Sea and the neighborhood thereof (hereinafter called ‘the area of benefit’) without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions, by associating together the said inhabitants and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and other leisure-time occupations with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.
Main Achievements during the Year
Over the 12 month period (01.04.2020 - 31.03.2021):
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak and what became the subsequent Pandemic, Meridale remained closed for the majority of this period. Meridale Youth Group managed to re-open for Kidz Klub for a short time as did Do-Dance Keep Fit classes, the Sutton on Sea Dog Club and Zumba classes.
All the above groups are user groups and not directly connected to the Organisation, however we looked to allow these groups use of the Centre as and when the law allowed to try and help the local community re-engage for their social and mental health and wellbeing.
Main Activities & Performance
- To run a youth & community centre: We operate a completely volunteer led (DBS checked) Organisation. The Meridale Youth Club is open to young people of secondary school age all year round, with the exception of the Christmas period and 4 weeks between August and September.
Meridale Kidz Klub is open during term time only on a Tuesday evening and caters for primary school children aged 6 and over. All volunteers are DBS checked.
Other groups to use the facilities include:
-
Do-Dance Keep Fit & Barn Dancing
-
Sutton on Sea Dog Club
-
Sutton on Sea Horticultural Society
-
Meridale Info Centre
-
Lincolnshire Police
-
Sutton on Sea Gardening Group
-
Sutton on Sea Women’s Institute
-
Sutton on Sea & Trusthorpe Lifeboat Guild
-
Councillors for Surgerys with the electorate
-
To publish a bi-monthly community newsletter: For 22 years volunteers at the centre have produced a very successful and well received document which informs the local community of all news and events taking place in the area. It is a free publication both to receive and to advertise in for all voluntary led groups. During the pandemic this was suspended.
-
To offer a community printing service:
-
Meridale has been fortunate to secure funding for quality printing equipment. This service is offered to local community groups and small businesses with the opportunity to have design and print work produced. All money raised from this service is fed back into general funds.
- Financial Review 2020 2021
Reserves policy:
Currently, The Meridale Organisation does not have a Reserves Policy. As a small concern and at the present time, such a policy is felt not to be a necessity.
Material funds in deficit:
There are no funds in deficit at the time of printing this document.
Principal source of funding:
Meridale seeks grants from established funding bodies, run self funding events and receives donations from several local sources.
How expenditure supports the key objectives of The Meridale Organisation:
The expenditure is necessary to enable the trustees to maintain the Hall and its facilities to the highest degree which in turn continues to attract a significant number of organisations from the local and wider community who have come to expect the very best in venue hire.
