Finally however in eady spring as Govid restrictK)ns eased we were able to continue training and resume competition in 8 limited way. The 2021 Track season has been difficult with athletes Ihe usual paCIpating and a shortage of officials but nonetheless with the help of our coaches and parent supwrt, our juniors have been able to enjoy training and some competition. In spite of some Road and XC membets moving away from London, wtth a growing number of new members we have had a very eniL>uraging stsrt to the '21f22 XC season both in the Chingford League and Met League and rnany very impressive performances on the road both in recent local Half Marathons and full Marathons, notably London and Manchester. We all hope we can IcK)k fotward to a full XC season, both leagues and annual fixtur85. Mel Mcclure The saddgst news has b8en the tragic death of Mel Mcclure. a wonderful person. friend and club memb8r and volunteer over many years. We remember her constanl kindness and help to us all along with her resilience and determinalion in some of the most challenging marathons. We miss her greatly and will always remember her wrth much fondness. Thanks On behalf of the dub rnembers, rt's a privilege for me to thank so tnany dub members who have devoted so much of their time and energy over the past year to help organise, train and motivate athletes into achieving new goals and developing slraiegies through Covid reslriclions to faciliiate a retum to club training and competition. Susan. Sophie & M8rlis. Clubhouse This year we have (ximpleted some improvement works at Ihe dubhouse. We have refurbished and altered the layout of rooms within the first flwr of the Annexe creating a large Pilates l Yoga studio and a treatment room. This has further inueased aclivily and use ol the dubhouse facilities by a wider section of OLJr local fitness community. We have worked wrth Sam White (Victoria Park Pilates18nd Joe Dale (Victori8 Park Sports Medicine) in these new projects. We have also revived the heating system in the Hall with a new boiler and fan convector heaters plus radiators in the Weights rwm which also doubles up 85 a Podiatrisfs treatrnent room on Fridays. We are very fortunate to continue to have Fabien (Victoria Park Fitnessl operating in the Hall. He is a great asset to the club and many of our members conb'nue to benefit from his strength and conditioning training. We still have a Taekwondo Group that use the hall ¢Jn Saturday afternoons and another group on Monday and Wednesday aftemoons. Mile End The track at Mile End is managed by GLL for Tower Hamlets. The dedirated trad( entran has not re-opened since Covid and users access the track the Leisure Centre. Junior dub members and dub coaches tunning junior sessions have free ac£ess to the track and now use a separate entrance. This is rather unsatisf8¢tory and we hope to improve ihis arrangement with GLL. The Gym at the track is also dosed and cannot be used at present. Whilst the management of this facility presents some difficulties, our coaches will continuing to hold junior training Sessions through the wnter months and wll prepare for the 2022 track season. The extent to which we manage lo involve more helpers. members and parents to undertake officials training, volunteering and event organising will influence our ability to host and partiupate in track competition in 2022. I think we all Tern8mr that although we wer8 able to enjoy som8 group running in 2020, th8 end of the y8ar saw us go into LkdOWn number 635. It was a challenging winter on a nurnber of fronts. but the spring saw wider society, and running specrfically, open up more and more and bring back to us the events that we are used to and love. By the time surnmer came around. training and racing were pretty much back to nomal. Due to knkdown and related restrictions on sport. our talenled and hardworking ladies may have had few opportunities to train or compete for a large part of this year. compared with 'nomial' years. However, our team spirit was undeterre(J, and whenevet it was possible. we gave il our all, whether in training or in races and r8li5h8d the chance to COTnpet8 as a team. Addtbonalty. w8 have welc0rn8d a signrficant number of n8W members to the team who have quickly integrated into the team and have enjoyed everything this great club has to offer. 85th Annual Mob Match This event did not lake place this year due to Covid. However, we are looking forward lo resuming this great tradition on 11 January 2022. Met League Met League did not take place during the 2021>2021 season. However, the 2021-22 season has kicked off to a great start, wth 29 ladies taking part in th8 fir5tfixture at Claybury in October 2021. Chingford League Chingford League organised a modtfied schedule during the past season. someb.mes with staggered starts, limited participation and multiple races to allow for social distancing. After no event being held in 2020, the mighty Jade and Blue retumed to the island in 2021. Whilst this year's group was smaller than our usual nting8nt. th8y enjoyed the racing on offer and came away some very strong r8SLJIts'. A few of our ladies land gentlemen} trained through the winter to race at the very scenic Essex Airfield Marathon in April. A 6-lap marathon course is not for the faint of heart, but Jess Lowe ran a new PB of 3.11, whilst Anni8 Trihan would mor8 accurately d8scrib8 her experience as-charact8r building.. Spring and summer saw more and more hxal events lrickle back. After a number of postponements, by mid-summer we all began to allY believe that autumn maraihons and XC might actually be back for good. The Big Haw, unusually held in August, was the first mass event back where we fert thal racing was back in earnest, nd many of our ladies were thrilled at the Chance to parbcip8te in this race after 8 delay of 8 year and 8 ha. Some stellar runs were had by our ladies. wrth PBS by Jo Hall 187.19}, Ollie Capel 188.191, Faye Jeacocke 89.38 and Robin Norton-Hale I.41) to mentK)n just a few. The Big Half was closely followed by another k81 favourite. the HkneY Half. Our ladies raced in Brighton, Manchester. Chelmsford and of course, the home course of London. Whether you were running or supporting, I think we all agree it Wa5 a great day and exemplified what running is all about for us. There were so many of our members taking part across these events, whether first time or seasoned marathoners, and huge congratulations are due to all who completed the distance. Winter I Spring 2020121: Come March 2021, the Chingford League concluded wrth the final two fixtures being hosted in Hog Hill (basking in sunshinell and the final team relays in Dagenham. Juniors Cornèlia A-Minal* The junior Track and FieKI athletes were happy to be able lo train again at the Mile End stadium after the Covid outbreak. It was notiC8able throughout all trainings groups that there were fewer athletes attending th8 trainings 5855ions. Most athletes struggled with fitness this season. We cotnpeted in 3 different leagues this season. Youth Development leagLJes.' Lower IU131151 and Higher IU171201 Age group and SAL IU171201. The fact that all leagues were fn"endly leagues helped athletes to get back into racing. Two athletes qualified for English sChs Championships, Lyra McDonald (Junior Girfs 800ml and Michelvi Wambal Inter Girls 20(Iml. Both athletes did very well. qualrfied for the finals and achieved big PBS. During the last few months Athlete numbers started to inuease again and after the end of summer breaks all trainings groups started winter training. For our club to stay compelibve in the Youth Development league we need to recruit more young athletes from U11supto U15s. For the nexi season we are also hoping to recruti more club members as qualified officials in order to help with league meetings. FINANCE REVIEW Going concern After making appropriate enquiries, the trustees have a ieasonable expectation that the Charrty has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future.
