Friends of Nettlebed School (Charity registration number: 1091177)
Trustees’ Annual Report for the period 1 October 2023 to 30 September 2024
Objectives and Activities
The purpose of Friends of Nettlebed School (“FONS”) is to advance the education of pupils at Nettlebed Community School in particular by (a) developing effective relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school and (b) engaging in activities or providing facilities or equipment which support the school and advance the education of the pupils.
Each year, the school gives us a list of items that they would like us to raise money for, such as music resources, trips and outdoor learning items, and we put on various events such as a Halloween disco, winter fete, summer fete, quiz night, as well as run uniform sales and cake sales on a smaller scale. At the moment, our largest annual event is a 10k “Stinger” run through the local area, which attracts around 300 adult runners, often unconnected to the school, as well as lots of local children.
The trustees consider the guidance provided by the Charity Commission on public benefit, as well as the constitution and plenty of guidance provided by Parentkind, which guides us through particularly important aspects relevant to parent-led organisations that fundraise for schools.
FONS Volunteers
Our volunteers are critical to FONS’ continuation. The board is made up of volunteers and our events are run by volunteers. We are immensely grateful to everyone, both within and outside of the school, who helps to put our events together.

Financial Review
We started the year with £21,276.67 in the bank and in hand, and ended the year with £28,719.00, having given the school the amount set out above.
Our reserves policy is to maintain at least £7,500 at all times in case of an emergency, which is based on our risk assessment. Our biggest risk is not getting sufficient parents and carers to run events each year, whilst the school still needs the funds to cover the basic annual requirement.
Structure, Governance and Management
The members of Friends of Nettlebed School are all the parents and carers of children at Nettlebed School. It is an unincorporated association and registered charity run by a small group of volunteer parents and carers. Trustees (the FONS committee) are appointed at the AGM, by being nominated, seconded and then voted on. Trustees are not paid for their time.
Our rules are set out in our constitution. We do not hold any real property, just cash and a few items used for events.
