**Friends of Nettlebed School (Charity registration number: 1091177)**

## **Trustees’ Annual Report for the period 1 October 2023 to 30 September 2024**

## **Objectives and Activities**

The purpose of Friends of Nettlebed School (“FONS”) is to advance the education of pupils at Nettlebed Community School in particular by (a) developing effective relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school and (b) engaging in activities or providing facilities or equipment which support the school and advance the education of the pupils.

Each year, the school gives us a list of items that they would like us to raise money for, such as music resources, trips and outdoor learning items, and we put on various events such as a Halloween disco, winter fete, summer fete, quiz night, as well as run uniform sales and cake sales on a smaller scale. At the moment, our largest annual event is a 10k “Stinger” run through the local area, which attracts around 300 adult runners, often unconnected to the school, as well as lots of local children.

The trustees consider the guidance provided by the Charity Commission on public benefit, as well as the constitution and plenty of guidance provided by Parentkind, which guides us through particularly important aspects relevant to parent-led organisations that fundraise for schools.

## **FONS Volunteers**

Our volunteers are critical to FONS’ continuation. The board is made up of volunteers and our events are run by volunteers. We are immensely grateful to everyone, both within and outside of the school, who helps to put our events together.

## **Achievements and Performance**

Our main events during the 2023-24 financial year raised:

|Halloween disco
£514.75|Halloween disco
£514.75|
|---|---|
|Christmas fete and tea towels
£1,381.72||
|Quiz night
£271.35||
|Easter
£261.74||
|Stinger
£6,812.24||
|Nettlefest|£5,011.74|

Overall we raised income of £29,995, profit before payments to school of £18,327, and surplus after payments to the school of £7,442.

We gave £10,885 to the school for the following:

- £2,877 for the percussion instruments in the KS1 playground

- £811 for classroom resources

- £446 for Christmas crafts, First News and Henley Youth Festival

- £1,219 for music lessons and resources

- £2,500 for Forest School

- £500 for the skipping workshop and Farms2Ewe

- £500 for coaches to sports events

- £334 for Year 6 calculators and SATs revision

- £539 for science resources

- £206 for DT resources

- £452 for geography and history resources

- £500 for RE resources

## **Financial Review**

We started the year with £21,276.67 in the bank and in hand, and ended the year with £28,719.00, having given the school the amount set out above.

Our reserves policy is to maintain at least £7,500 at all times in case of an emergency, which is based on our risk assessment. Our biggest risk is not getting sufficient parents and carers to run events each year, whilst the school still needs the funds to cover the basic annual requirement.

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

The members of Friends of Nettlebed School are all the parents and carers of children at Nettlebed School. It is an unincorporated association and registered charity run by a small group of volunteer parents and carers. Trustees (the FONS committee) are appointed at the AGM, by being nominated, seconded and then voted on. Trustees are not paid for their time.

Our rules are set out in our constitution. We do not hold any real property, just cash and a few items used for events.
