CONSTITUTION
The Broxbourne University of the Third Age was established under a constitution adopted February 2000, amended, and adopted May 2003 and further amended and adopted in May 2008, May 2012, May 2018, May 2021 and again in May 2023.
The Constitution is based upon the Model Constitution recommended by the Third Age Trust.
The Charity is managed by a Committee organised in accordance with the Constitution. Committee Members are Trustees.
New trustees are recruited from our membership and are nominated and appointed at the Annual General Meeting in accordance with the Constitution.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
To advance the education of the public, in particular, the education of older people no longer in full time gainful employment in Broxbourne and its surrounding locality.
The provision of facilities for leisure time and recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the above persons, in the interest of their social and physical welfare.
These objectives are achieved by organising Interest Groups from our membership and currently there are around 40 Groups. To mention just a few, they range from Art to Woodturning and include such activities as: Art, Bowls, Creative Writing, Dancing, Family History, French, Gardening, Heritage, Spanish, Scrabble, T’ai Chi, Walks, Woodturning etc.

Notes To the Accounts for The Year Ending 31[st] March 2024
1 Accounting Policies
These Accounts have been prepared on a Receipts and Payments basis as allowed under Section 42(3) of the Charities Act 1993.
It is policy to retain a minimum of six months Branch Expenses as a reserve.

2 These totals are the aggregate of all transactions of the “interest groups” for the year.

3 Subscriptions in 2023-24 totalled £9,574 and in 2022-23 were £10,222.

4 Raffle proceeds are used to supplement Branch income and, net of prizes, totalled £482.

5 Sundry income during the past year has come from book sales (£188), Programme advertising (£100), and balances from closed groups (£26)

6 Affiliation fees include £2,440 paid to the Third Age Trust on a capitation basis.

7 No new equipment was purchased during the year.

8 The surplus of £1,558 is attributable to a surplus of £65, for the U3A Branch and aa increase. of £1,493 in total cash balances of individual U3A interest groups.

9 The cash at bank and in hand are unrestricted funds and consist of:
