Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 During the year, Casa Valentin continued to
welcome Ukrainian refugees and by June
had a full house with 26 refugees staying, all
of whom were extremely grateful for all the
help they received. This meant that it was
not possible to welcome any Romanian
children for a holiday. It also put a
tremendous strain on our staff with all the
extra cooking and cleaning. Language was
also problematical as it involved translations
to and from Ukrainian to English and English
to Romanian. Expenses were very high, but
fortunately some food was obtained (just in
date) from a shop in a nearby town and they
received donations from local Romanians.
By November it was possible to re-start
class visits from two local primary schools
with one visit each week. The educational
authorities and local villagers were glad that
we were able to continue with this
programme.
During the spring it was possible for the staff
to concentrate on the local children with the
Social Programme group really enjoying
everything they do at Casa Valentin. The
school visits also continued.
We are grateful to our supporters who, by
their giving, have allowed Casa Valentin to
become such a blessing to Romanians and
Ukrainians alike during therecent crises.

Financial Review

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 Since the Covid19 pandemic the sharp rise
in costs, coupled with a corresponding fall in
revenue, meant that our receipts fell
throughout this period (as with many
charities). We were fortunate that no one
has stopped their Standing Orders or
reduced them, and we are thankful that we
have received some generous financial
support in the same period. Our annual
claim for Gift Aid by His Majesty’s Revenue
and Customs department is a much
appreciated additionto our receipts.
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 We do not hold reserves.
Amount of reservesheld Para 1.22 N/A
Reasons for holding zero
reserves
Para 1.22 As a faith mission we do not hold any basic
reserves, relying on our donors to provide
the necessary funding each year.
