Its aid is directed towards the support of sthools and other communty proieth in the Democrab'c Republic of the Congo (DRC), the Cameroon and in Gabon. SJAA work8 closely Imth the Jose￿it85, a R<xnan Catholic religious order founded in Belgium in 1817, who established 8choo18 and missions in the DRC (fomierty kn(Avn a8 the Belgian Congo and subsequently Zaire) and ￿se￿ere in Africa. Education in the Democratic Republic of thè Congo (DRC) Supporting education has been one of SJAA'S key aims slnce Its Inceptlon and most of the funds it has disbursed have been for this purpose. This has taken tha fom of grants for school building8. supplementing teachers, Government-financed salari08, and providing basic equipment for the schools such as blackboards, desk8. and educational materials. Additionally. ComFXrter equipment and Se￿ing machines have been provided to help pupils eam a INing when they leave school. We are active in a region of the south-west of the DRC known a8 the Kasai where we 8UPI)0rt 9 schools in Ilebo, Domiongo and Bulongo which together educate over 3,000 pupils of whom atxrt half are girls, and Iwo sclx)ols in Kinshasa which educate over 1,OIX) puyls. As we have done for many year5 now, this year YK again supported teachers in the Kasal schools by augmentÉng their krw Salaries, and by provKling fund8 for the wrchase of educational reswrces such as books and other dassroom resources. The money to do ttrH8 comes largely from donations generousty given from their salaries by the staff at St George's Weybridge Junior School and College. which is then matched by St George's Weybridge, their parent Charity. Fundraising events were also organized at tx)th schools. Boarding Accommodation for Girfs in Domiongo. 2019-2022. Construction of the ￿lId1r¥j continues at a slcrw pace. It was initially halted due lo COVID, however, getting materi* to the site of the rew Domiittxy continues to wove difficult due to

the lack of a d￿nt roadway, much of the materials have had to be strapped to bicycles and pushed to the location. Materials and experienced labour remain scarce The project is expected to complete in 21r23. Running Water We take far granted that communitles will have safe running water, and this is not always the case. In Cameroon able to assist two desperate communrties to seardi for water and dig a well to provide fresh running waier at Maoudak arKI Ngome&8ing. We also helped to replace a water pump in Dwram. Smallor Projects A number of smaller projects were approved ar#J completed in the year. To the DRC we provided funds for the purchase of Sewing machines for Kinshasa St Etienne school and replacement solar panel batteries in Ilebo to enable students to study elefAronically by provldlng electritity to the 8dKJoI and ￿)MMunty. In Cameroon we Sent funds for solar batt&ri8s in Douram plus the purchase two new motorcycles for the Josephites and the repalr of their 4 x 4 pickup which had been damaged. The bikes enable the Jo88phrtes to visit local communities in area8 where the road8 are too bad for any olher vehbde8. We abo provided fund8 for bursaries to enabl6 refugees to attend 8chool in Koza Northwest Cameroon and t books to enable the school to add a new dass year. thus for the first time, teaching sludents at a higher educatFonal level. We were also able to 8UPPOrt the purch88e of a grain mill in village outside of Douram to enable the women of communlty to grind in batches rather than daily by hand.
