Objectives and Activities

Objects and Purpose

AMADET’s objects are:

(iii) the relief of poverty. The area of benefit is ‘Kenya’.

AMADET’s overall purpose is ‘Supporting Africans in mission’. All of our activities are undertaken to further our charitable purpose for the benefit of the public. The Trustees have had regard to Charity Commission guidance on public benefit in section 4 of the Charities Act 2006. The main benefits which have arisen during the year from the organisation’s aims are summarised in the following section on Achievements, Performance and Financial Review.

Achievements, Performance and Financial Review

AMADET continues to work hard to recruit supporters and donors, channelling resources for the work of Anglican Missioners of Africa (Church Army East Africa), and making this work more widely known. We are grateful to our donors who gave generously during 2023. Our total income for 2023 was £44,213 (2022: £59,003) with £50 from trusts, £18,008 from churches and £21,778 from individuals. We were able to reclaim Gift Aid of £4,377 thanks to people who Gift-Aided their donations.

Our total expenditure was £57,828 (2022: £43,773) of which £57,350 (2022: £43,288) was spent on charitable grants and £478 on governance and administration costs. Of the £57,350 grants; £49,655 was given to Carlile College and the Centre for Urban Mission, mostly designated for student bursaries; £6,570 was given to Church Army Africa; with £1,125 paid to various projects in Kenya as per donors’ wishes.

AMADET’s reserves policy is to apply funds as soon as possible after they are received and therefore to have the lowest possible level of reserves. As at 31 December 2023 reserves totalled £20,278 (2022: £33,893) of which £6,537 (2022: £15,909) was represented by ‘free reserves’ held in unrestricted funds.

We produced two newsletters in 2023, each distributed to our mailing list of about 80 supporters. The newsletter can also be viewed online at www.amadet.org.uk

Going concern

The charity has no employees and few expenses. We have continued to receive regular donations from our supporters. The Trustees are happy, therefore, to present these financial statements with no concerns as to the ongoing viability of the charity.

Prayer

We believe that ‘Supporting Africans in mission’ implies prayer and encouragement as much as financial support. Rejoice with us in what has been achieved, and please continue to pray with us in 2023 and beyond.

Declaration

The Trustees declare that they have approved the Trustees’ report above. Signed on behalf of the charity’s trustees:

Qn Tim Dakin, Chair of Trustees 8.6.2025
