SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,

charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 Our main focus is on the continuing
education and personal development of
those who have reached retirement or are
no longer in full-time employment. There is
also the wider social benefit of our members
coming together with like-minded people.
Members are regularly encouraged to invite
friends to our meetings, in the hope that they
will be interested in joining our u3a.

Our membership has now grown to over 1,000 members which represents c. 20% increase over the previous two years.

Para 1.21 Income = £88,155
Expenditure = £90,804
Expenditure over income = £2,649
These accounts have been independently
examined
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 Reserves are held to enable the u3a to
withstand unexpected events and
fluctuations in income and expenditure.
One significant risk is a major decline in
membership which alone could reduce
income by as much as £7,000. There are
also payment timing issues which require
that a reserve be maintained.
The Trustees have assessed that a reserve
of £15,000 is required to cover contingencies
and timing issues at the year end.
While these risks are those identified as the
most likely, the reserves are available for
use if other risks jeopardise the future of the
u3a.
The reserves policy is reviewed every year.
Amount of reserves held Para 1.22 £45,000

reserves
