Our objectives are to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the finan¢ial statements as a whole are free from matcrial misslatemenL whether due to fraud or error, and to issue a Report of the independent auditors that includes our opinion. Reasonable assurance is a high level of 2ssuran¢e, but is not a guarantee that an audit conducted in accordance with ISAS {UK} will always detect a material misstatement when it exists. Misstatements can arise from fraud or error and are considered material if, individually or in the aggregate, they could reasonably be expected to influence the economtc decisions of users takcn on the basis of these financial stal¢ment5. The extent to which our procedures are capable of detecting iryegularities, including fraud is detailed below.. Our approach to identifying and assessing the risks of material misstatcment in respect of irresularities, including fraud and non-compliance with laws and regulations, was as follows.. -our engagement partner ensured that the engagement teatn collectively bad the appropriatc compctence, capabilities and skills to identify or recogni.%e non-compliance with applicable laws and regulations- -we identified tlie laws and rcgulations applicable to the charity through discussions with management, and from our knowledge and experience of charity operations. -we focused on specific laws and regulations which we considered may have a direct material effect on the financial stat¢mcnts or the operations of the charity, including such as the Charities Act 2011, data protection, anti-bribery, employLnent. environmental and health attd safety legtslation- -wc ass¢sscd the extent of compliance with the laws and regulations identified above through making enquiries of managemcnt and inspecting legal correspondence- and -identified laws and regulations were communicated within the audit team regularly and the team remained alert to instanccs of non-compliance throughout the audit. We assessed the susceptibility of the charity's financial statements to material misstatement, including obtaining an understanding of how fraud might occur by.. -rnaking enquiries of management as to where they considered there was susceptibility to fraud. th¢ir knowledge of actual, suspected and alleged fraud. -considering the internal controls in plaee to mitigate risks of fraud and non•compliance with laws and regulauons" To address the risk of fraud through managcment bias and override of controls. we.. -perforn]ed analytical procedures to identify any unusual or unexpected relationthips. -tested journal ¢ntrie5 to identify unusual transactions,. -assessed whether judgements and assumptions made in detennining the accounting estimates were indicative of potential bias. -investigated the rationale behind Si￿lfiCallt or unusual transactions. In response to the risk of irregularities and non-compliance with laws and rcgulations, we designed procedures which included, but were not limited to-. -agreeing financial statement disclosures to underlying supporting documentation- -reading the n]inutes of meetings olthose charged with governance. -¢nquiring of managemeDt as to actual and potcntial litigation and claims- -r¢viewing Correspondence with th¢ ¢harity'$ Icgal advisors. There are itth¢rent limitaiions in our audit procedures described above. The more removed that laws and regulations are from financial transactions, the less likely it LS that we would become aware of non-compliance. Auditing standards also limit the audit procedures required to identify non-eomplian¢e with laws and regulations to enquiry of managemcnt and the inspection of regulatory and legal cottespondence, if any- Page 9
