Actlvities The Trust provldes experience of travel by narrowboai on the British canal system to persons who are di53bled, disadvantaged, deprived Or elderly. It seek5 to Improve their quality ol life by th15 experience encompassing recreational, &duc8tlonal and soci81 needs. The Trust has two narrowboats, speclally adapted to meet Our passengers needs, these boats are lully aperatlonal. We recruit, encourage and tr3in volunteers to carry out the actlvitles and rn3intenance ol the Trust to the hlghest HeaSth and S3lety standards. The Trust wa5 awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service in June 2017 in recognition of the hard work and dedlcatlon ol it5 volunteer members. Results The surplu5 lor the year to 31st March 2024 was £10,409 Increaslng the balance ol restricted and vnre5tricted funds to £3L9,070. The increase malnly resulted frorn an increase in Investment performance compared to prlor year, as sailing perlorrnance income was in line with 2023. The Trust ha5 lund5 of £147,185 in various bank 3ccounts which are considered sufficient for the year ahead. Long term investment5 intended for use in longer term Maintenance and eventual replac@ment of our boats, have incre3sed to £136,2191£123,100 in the prior yearl as a result ol increased investment performance.

Total investment income lincluding investment funds and b3nk interest) w35 3n increase of £16,159 as a result of irnproved performance of our investment portfolio, in line with general market increase during 2023124. Resources Expended Direct expen5e5 were £20.4271£14,793 in the previou5 yearl. an increase on prior year due to Increased boat maintence and repalrs. The charity contlnues to benefit from the hard work ol volunteers wlth a wide range of skills, who are generou5 Wlth thelr tirne 8iven to mannin8 and maintaining the boats and admlnlstratlon of the Trust. Overheads of £21.4661£18,774 in the previous yearl a slight Increase over prior year due to roorn hire, voluntèer expenses, training costs and utilities. We continue to C3rry out National Community Boat Association INCBAI tr3inin8 courses to meei Maritlme nd Coastguard Agency IMCAI requirements and include First Aid training. All sailing volunteers are DBS checked io ensure the safety of our cllents, The trust had no employment liabilitles during rhe financial year to 31 March 2024, as all crewing and adminlstratlve personnel requirements are undertaken voluntarily. Future Strategy The Trust plans to continue present operation5. Activity can occaslonally be Ilmlted by the avallability of volunteer crew5, an issue continually addressed by Council. Reserves Policy Reserves ère considered essentlal to cover sea50n31 flvctuations of Income and outgoings, unforeseen rep8irs and replacements. The annual surplu5 being achieved through fundraisln8 will ensure that the Trust Is also In a posltion to provlde a $18nllicant percentage ol the replacement cost of the boats when considered nece5S8ry. This should assist U5 in obt8lnln8 any balance of funds requlred. Depreclatlon Pollcy Councll agreed in 2002 it would be prudent to depreciate our boats at an annual rate of S% ol historlc cost. Thi5 policy will continue. Investment Policy Reserves designated for replacement of boats ènd Ion8er term maintenance are invested in equity and fixed Interest charity funds with appropriate organisation5.
