Wirral Community Narrowboat Trust (the Trust) is a ch3rit3ble company limited by 8uarantee,
incorporated on 1st October 1999 and registered as a charity no 1084432 on 9th January 2001.
rhe company w35 incorporated under a Memorandum of Association which established the objective5
and powers of the ch3rit3ble cornp3ny and is governed under its Articles of Associ3tion. Under those
Articles, the rnernbers of Council are elected Bt the AGM to Serve a period ol three years, Subject to
ratilic3tlon at each AGM.

Council presents ils report 3nd independentl¥ scrulinised financial statement for the year ended 315t
March 2024.
Actlvities
The Trust provldes experience of travel by narrowboai on the British canal system to persons who are
di53bled, disadvantaged, deprived Or elderly. It seek5 to Improve their quality ol life by th15
experience encompassing recreational, &duc8tlonal and soci81 needs. The Trust has two narrowboats,
speclally adapted to meet Our passengers needs, these boats are lully aperatlonal. We recruit, encourage
and tr3in volunteers to carry out the actlvitles and rn3intenance ol the Trust to the hlghest HeaSth and
S3lety standards.
The Trust wa5 awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service in June 2017 in recognition of the hard
work and dedlcatlon ol it5 volunteer members.
Results
The surplu5 lor the year to 31st March 2024 was £10,409 Increaslng the balance ol restricted and vnre5tricted
funds to £3L9,070. The increase malnly resulted frorn an increase in Investment performance compared to prlor year,
as sailing perlorrnance income was in line with 2023.
The Trust ha5 lund5 of £147,185 in various bank 3ccounts which are considered sufficient for the year ahead.
Long term investment5 intended for use in longer term Maintenance and eventual replac@ment of our boats,
have incre3sed to £136,2191£123,100 in the prior yearl as a result ol increased investment performance.

Income Resources
Income Increasod to £52.3011£31,020 in the previou5 yearl primarily due to higher income from
inve5tment5 and bank interest.
This year our prirne sources of Income were from donations (to cover sponsored trips and repairs & m31nten3ncel
and trip sailings as well a5 investments. Our volunleer5 were again successful this year In both marketing activities
and fundraising.
Total investment income lincluding investment funds and b3nk interest) w35 3n increase of £16,159
as a result of irnproved performance of our investment portfolio, in line with general market increase during 2023124.
Resources Expended
Direct expen5e5 were £20.4271£14,793 in the previou5 yearl. an increase on prior year
due to Increased boat maintence and repalrs.
The charity contlnues to benefit from the hard work ol volunteers wlth a wide range of skills,
who are generou5 Wlth thelr tirne 8iven to mannin8 and maintaining the boats and admlnlstratlon of the Trust.
Overheads of £21.4661£18,774 in the previous yearl a slight Increase over prior year due to roorn hire, voluntèer
expenses, training costs and utilities.
We continue to C3rry out National Community Boat Association INCBAI tr3inin8 courses to meei Maritlme
nd Coastguard Agency IMCAI requirements and include First Aid training. All sailing volunteers are DBS
checked io ensure the safety of our cllents, The trust had no employment liabilitles during rhe financial year
to 31 March 2024, as all crewing and adminlstratlve personnel requirements are undertaken voluntarily.
Future Strategy
The Trust plans to continue present operation5. Activity can occaslonally be Ilmlted by the avallability of
volunteer crew5, an issue continually addressed by Council.
Reserves Policy
Reserves ère considered essentlal to cover sea50n31 flvctuations of Income and outgoings, unforeseen
rep8irs and replacements. The annual surplu5 being achieved through fundraisln8 will ensure that the
Trust Is also In a posltion to provlde a $18nllicant percentage ol the replacement cost of the boats when
considered nece5S8ry. This should assist U5 in obt8lnln8 any balance of funds requlred.
Depreclatlon Pollcy
Councll agreed in 2002 it would be prudent to depreciate our boats at an annual rate of S% ol historlc
cost. Thi5 policy will continue.
Investment Policy
Reserves designated for replacement of boats ènd Ion8er term maintenance are invested in equity and fixed
Interest charity funds with appropriate organisation5. Funds to cover operational expenditure are held in
bènk and savlngs accounts with the highest rates of interest sought. cons1stent wlth liquSdity and safety ol

Responsibilities of Council

assume that the company will continue on that basis.
Council Is responsible for rnalntaining proper accounting records which dlsc105e with reasonable
accuracy St èny time the financi31 position of thè Trust and to enable thern to ensure that the financial
statement5 comply with the Companles Act 2006. Council 15 also responsible for saleguardlng tho assets
of the Trust and hence lor taking reasonèble steps to prevent and detect fraud and other irre8ularities.

l. General Information
The Company was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee, and not having a share capital, on 1st
October 1999 to provide and operate narrowboats lor social, educ3tion313nd therapeutic needs for
people who are disadvantaged or deprived. It is a registered charity number 1084432.
The company qualifies as a very small company for audit exemption purp05e5 and therefore submits an
abbreviated Balance Sheet and the following Statements
al For the year ended 31st March 2024 the company was entitled to exemption under section 477121 of
the Compènles Act 2006
bl Members have not reouired the company to obtain an audit in occordance with section 4?6 of the
Companies Act 2006
