4.Chairman’s Report:

FRSGA AGM CHAIRMAN’S REPORT 24[th] May 2023

This last year has been a relatively steady one for the Sports Ground Association, not without its difficulties, but we have seen it successfully through.

There has been continuous wrangling in respect of the Lease from ESCC which is still not finalised but is expected to be so.

We have to thank Mike Humphries once again, who despite stepping down as a Trustee, has been a source of wise advice and has reviewed and revised our Constitution to conform with the terms of the proposed Lease from ESCC.

Mark Jackson as Treasurer has kept a close eye on our overall expenditure and forecast a slight loss for the year due ongoing maintenance.

Robbie Divall too has improved the financial side by running the bar and lettings. It was unfortunately necessary to raise fees to the clubs to meet the expected rise in energy costs, to ensure that we stay financially healthy in the future.

We have received for this last year £2500 from the Parish Council (PC) to help with the costs of maintaining the Sports ground (village recreation area) but in the light of the PC being recently almost completely restructured or fixed perhaps, we have yet to see what their attitude is in the future to the sports ground as a village amenity.

Our thanks are due to all Trustees and Committee members for their hard work but especially to Gwen Pritchitt who as our PC rep gave us an insight to what was going down at PC meetings but who now can no longer stay in that role. We thank Gwen for her good advice over so many years.

As I leave the Trustees, as Chairman after some 12 years, I look back with pleasure over what we together have achieved, and the organisation is still going strong and still in good hands. I wish you all good luck in the future and shall continue to keep an eye on how things are going.

Kindest Regards Jeff Horner

5.Treasurers Report and approval of the Accounts:

We are showing a slight surplus at the end of the year. Thanks goes to all the clubs for paying their fees and to Robbie Divall who does a sterling job with the hirings and bar.Eventhough we have lost one of the home school rentals we have received £3,680 in income from rentals this year. The bar has done well with a surplus of £1,164;Which is mainly due to the Seconds Senior football Team.

6.Club Reports:

Junior Football Club

The Forest Rowe Junior FC provides grass roots football to circa 160 children aged 5-16 in the Forest Row area.

Age Groups:

U5-U7 year olds do not play matches and are focused on developing basic skills.

U8-U10 year olds play in the Crowborough league mostly in Friendly leagues where no league table is kept.

U11-U16 year olds play in the Horsham league – these leagues are competitive.

Ground Usage:

U5-U7 use a small part of the pavilion ground to train on Saturday mornings.

U8-U10 use the Medway Park facility on Saturday mornings. Medway has four “mini” pitches in total.

U11-U13 use the Junior pitch at the Pavilion on Saturday mornings.

U14-U16 use the Senior pitch at the Pavilion on Saturday mornings.

Highlights of 2022-23 season:

U12 side won the Horsham division D league.

U15 side won the Horsham division C league.

Facilities:

With the help of a Parish Council grant – the club was able to purchase two sets of goals – this means the club has the correct goal sizes (per FA) available for all age groups.

FIRST TEAM

The First Team play in the Southern Combination Football League (SCFL) Division 1 which is at Step 6/Level 10 of the Football League Pyramid (Level 1 being the FA Premier League). This has been our second season playing in SCFL Division 1. It has been a mixed season compared to 2021-22 when we finished a credible 11[th] place in our first season of county level football. In this second season at County 1, there were a few changes to the squad, and we struggled for consistency. However, despite finishing second from bottom, we avoided relegation and remain in Division 1 for the forthcoming season. The team were very unlucky in the Division 1 Challenge Cup competition losing in the semi-final 2-1 and literally with the last kick of the game.

I have stepped down as First Team Manager, after 7 years, and from 2023-24 the First team will be managed by Tim Penlington and Dean Blackmore. I remain as Senior Football Club Treasurer and I have also been elected Chairman of the Senior Football Club from season 2023-24.

RESERVES

The reserves are managed by Charlie Elson-Farmer and Dominic Chamberlain. The Reserves were promoted at the end of the 2021-22 season to Division 2 North of the Mid-Sussex Football League (MSFL) which equates to Level 14 of the Football League Pyramid. This season they were involved in a tight race for the top two places eventually ending in a fourth-place finish. The Reserves also won the Stubbins Cup competition – becoming the first Forest Row team to win the competition.

Ron Holah
