Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

POC Christian Academy

POC Christian Academy has opened its doors to 206 students from Kindergarten to the 10th Grade. As we are not permitted to conduct faceto-face classes, our students were provided with printed materials that they are to complete within one or two weeks. To prepare for the heavy load of printing materials, industrial printers and copiers were purchased and put to use immediately. During this time of no physical classes we were able to fund raise and complete renovations on 3 of our rooms to comply with government standards. These renovations are toward getting a government recognition to operate our Junior High School level. At the end of the year, 15 students graduated their elementary level and 15 students completed the 10th grade.

POC Children’s Home

There are a total of fifty [53] children in the children’s home. 20 boys, 23 girls, 8 babies and toddlers, 4 children with disability. Before the pandemic hit in March we were able to admit 2 girls, siblings who are children of a former inmate. 3 of our children were reunited with their families. 6 turned 18 years old and have been discharged and are now living independently.

Due to the pandemic, and a complete lockdown in our community it was very difficult for us to provide food for the children since we could only go to stores and markets at a schedule time and day. We were blessed to have received food packages from various donors including the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

And since the children could not go out, even to attend church services, we were able to provide various activities such as; easter egg hunts, poster making contests, basketball competition, swimming in the paddling pool, movie night using a projector screen. Crystal, who has cerebral palsy was finally able to start physical therapy and occupational therapy, thanks to our sponsors, because of the pandemic no therapy centers are open but we were able to hire a home service therapist who comes twice a week.

In August, thanks to our sponsors in Germany we were able to install Solar Panels in our Girls Home to help with our electric expenses. If this proves to be efficient, they would like to continue to fundraise for Poc and install Solar Panels in other buildings.

In the midst of a pandemic, we thank God because we were able to take our kids, the staff and their children to White Rock Beach Resort and Water park for Christmas Day. This celebration has always been the highlight of the year for the kids, and because of the pandemic we thought it would be impossible for us to be allowed to take 200 people to the Water Park. But observing safety protocols, Christmas Day was a memorable day for all.

The Charity Shop in Timperley, Cheshire UK continues to help support the charity activities in the Philippines.

Section D Achievements and performance POC Prison Ministry

Sadly, since March 2020, the prisons have been closed to visitors and religious volunteers on account of the CoVid pandemic and have not yet reopened. For this reason the work of the POCM prison ministry team has been very limited. They produced video recordings of bible studies and inspirational talks to encourage the inmates in their absence. The prison authorities expressed their grateful thanks for the virtual our continued support for the inmates albeit virtual. POCM took gifts of toiletries for at least 100 inmates in each of the jails, (Iba, San Fernando (male and female), Olongapo District jail (male and female) and Angeles District jail (male and female). 400 packs of toiletries were also distributed to the jails in time for the October 25th-31st Prison Awareness week celebrations. Lord willing as soon as the pandemic restrictions are lifted, the POCM Prison team will resume their weekly visits the to the 4 jails. POC Christian Fellowship

We gave food relief twice to more than 100 families in the area. The church helped start a micro-business for a family in Wea Village to support their family.

Help built small homes for 2 families.

The Church in Laguna supported a feeding program to 50 dispose families from who squat around Manila Railways, and continue to do so to this day.

This year POCF Bataan, the renovation is finally completed after a year of fundraising for the church’s tiles it was finally completed this year. POCF Subic provides weekly support for and elderly woman in the community, Mila Sitar who is blind and a widow. Sadly, due to the pandemic we could not conduct a Summer Youth Camp for the young people this year. On December the Church Celebrated its 35th year anniversary due to the pandemic restrictions, we conducted 3 services of the same program to accommodate 280 attendees.

Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of PHILIPPINE OUTREACH CENTRE MINISTRIES

I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31st December 2020,

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the 1993 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

• examine the accounts under section 43 of the 1993 Act;

• to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 43(7)(b) of the 1993 Act; and

• to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner’s statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

• to keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 of the 1993 Act; and

• to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 1993 Act

have not been met; or

(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
