SAWLEY COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

TRUSTEE’S REPORT Y/E 2020

Charity number: 1069982

Address: Sawley Community Hall Draycott Road Sawley Nottingham

Charity structure :

The Sawley Community Hall is owned and managed by the Sawley Community Association (registered charity) a group of volunteers living in or around Sawley. Management is undertaken by the Committee (Chairman, vice-Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Letting Secretary, general Committee Members) with subCommittees set up from time to time to address specific issues. The management and maintenance of the Hall is funded entirely from letting fees, grants and fundraising activities with no Council or other funding.

Activities & objectives :

The Association was established to provide and manage a facility for the benefit of the inhabitants of Sawley and surrounding area.

There are currently several groups who regularly use the Hall across all age groups and interests, eg children’s dance classes, table tennis, Sawley Before & After School Club, Disabled group, Phoenix drama group. The Hall provides a venue for private parties and other events (eg quiz night, carol service, stage productions).

Achievements & performance :

The Hall continued to operate with a significant number of bookings and a project to re-furbish the ladies and disabled toilets and entrance area was completed in March. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Hall was then closed from March to September when limited activities resumed before the Hall closed again until the end of the year.

Financial review :

Due to the closure of the Hall income from letting fees was considerably reduced, however, a grant of £10,000 was received to support the Association at that time. To enable the Sawley Before & After School Club to operate for key worker children during the school closure a reduced hire agreement was made which remained in place until the end of the year. A financial review concluded the Hall could remain financially stable whilst closed in the short to medium term.
