INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT ON THE ACCOUNTS Receipts and Payments Accounts Report to the trusteeslmembers of Sheldon Community Church Registered Charity number 1069691 On the accounts for the year ended 31 January 2024 Set out on the following pages Respective responsibilitles of trustees and examiner The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to- Examine the accounts (under section 145 of the 2022 Act. To follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 14515){b) of the 2011 Act. arKI State whether particutar matters have come to my attention. Basis of independent examlnerfs report My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination indudes a review of the accounting records kept by the chartty and a comparison of the accounts presented wrth those records. It also indudes consideration of any unusual items or disdosures in Ihe accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees conceming any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit. and consequently no opinion is given as lo whether the accounts a 'true and fair view. and the report is limited to those matters set out in the ststeTnent below. SHELQK)N COMMUNI Y CHURCH REPORTOFTHE TRUSTEESAND THE CHURCH COUNCIL FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31#JANUARY2024 The Church Council (CC) of Sheldon Community Church (SCC) is committed to enabling as many people as possible to worship and become part of our church community. Ob"ectives When planning our activities for the year, the CC have considered the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit and. in particular. the specific guidan on charities for the advanment of religion. In accordance with our Constitution, SCC'S purposes (or objects) for the benefit of the public are: 1. To advance the Christian Faith 2. To relieve sickness and financial hardship, and to promote and preserve good health by the provision of funds, goods or services of any kind including through the provision of counselling and support 3. To advan education in such parts of the United Kingdom (UK) or the world as the CC from time to time may think fit. Activities At SCC, we purpose to equip and empower church members to live out and share their faith through: Worship and prayer; leaming about the Gospel; and developing their knowledge and trust in Jesus Pastoral care Community provision; missionary and outreach work Our weekly Family servi incorporates worship, spiritual encouragement and ministry, whilst opportunities are provided for prayer. The launch of'Glow Kids, during the year facilitates an age-related environment for children to worship and learn from the Bible. Communion is taken on the first Sunday of the month. All are welcome to attend SCC services.
Young people have enjoyed social events, combined worship ServIS with other youth groups organised by Assemblies of God {AoG) and Birmingham City Mission (BCM), and attended a summer camp. The CC value Safeguarding as an important aspect of our culture. Through our Policy, regular training and 'Safeguarding Sunday, each year, we are able to positively communicate this principle to our church community. The recent introduction of Shared Interest Groups has provided our church community with space to build personal relationships, be accountable and grow in faith together. 'Paty in the Park, during summer months, annual cOnferenS and various social events compliment pastoral care. Helping those in need is a demonstration of our faith. Hope Community Shop was officially opened on the 3rd December 2011, with the aim of bringing hope to the Sheldon community- both practically and spiritually. Relying solely on donations, we have provided". quality clothes, toys, books and gtfts at bargain pris. ServIS and activities to support the needs of local people; community events at Christmas and Easter; and funding for local projects from any profits. With the lease on the premises due to expire in 2023. the CC decided not to renew the lease. Therefore, Hope Community Shop closed its doors for the last time on the 24th December 2023. SCC continues to partner with several charities. disaster relief agencies and missionary organisations in the UK and around the world, in line with the Cc's Missions Policy. SCC remains a member of Hatchford Brook Churches Together as well as part of various missional collaborations around the city. Volunteers The CC would like to thank all of our volunteers at SCC who work so hard to ensure we are able to function as a vibrant church community. Financial Review The primary sources of funding for SCC are the free will offerings of church members. This is supplemented by income tax recovered under the HMRC Gift Aid scheme. We are thankful to every person who gives within the life of our church.
The CC recognise the importance of a Reserves Policy to help practise good stewardship and financial management. It is CC policy to maintain a balance on unrestricted funds which equates to three months of operating costs, or a minimum of£7,500. Financial assets in excess of agreed reserves will generally be held in liquid form, but may be invested in accordance with the church's risk profile, as per the Cc's Investment Policy. Restricted funds on deposit are designated to purchase land I buildings for SCC in accordan with our CharitableArticles. The financial results are set out in the enclosed accounts.
