SHELQK)N COMMUNI Y CHURCH
REPORTOFTHE TRUSTEESAND THE CHURCH COUNCIL
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31#JANUARY2024
The Church Council (CC) of Sheldon Community Church (SCC) is committed
to enabling as many people as possible to worship and become part of our
church community.
Ob"ectives
When planning our activities for the year, the CC have considered the Charity
Commission's guidance on public benefit and. in particular. the specific
guidan￿ on charities for the advan￿ment of religion.
In accordance with our Constitution, SCC'S purposes (or objects) for the
benefit of the public are:
1. To advance the Christian Faith
2. To relieve sickness and financial hardship, and to promote and preserve
good health by the provision of funds, goods or services of any kind
including through the provision of counselling and support
3. To advan￿ education in such parts of the United Kingdom (UK) or the
world as the CC from time to time may think fit.
Activities
At SCC, we purpose to equip and empower church members to live out and
share their faith through:
Worship and prayer; leaming about the Gospel; and developing their
knowledge and trust in Jesus
Pastoral care
Community provision; missionary and outreach work
Our weekly Family servi￿ incorporates worship, spiritual encouragement and
ministry, whilst opportunities are provided for prayer. The launch of'Glow Kids,
during the year facilitates an age-related environment for children to worship
and learn from the Bible. Communion is taken on the first Sunday of the
month. All are welcome to attend SCC services.

Young people have enjoyed social events, combined worship ServI￿S with
other youth groups organised by Assemblies of God {AoG) and Birmingham
City Mission (BCM), and attended a summer camp.
The CC value Safeguarding as an important aspect of our culture. Through
our Policy, regular training and 'Safeguarding Sunday, each year, we are able
to positively communicate this principle to our church community.
The recent introduction of Shared Interest Groups has provided our church
community with space to build personal relationships, be accountable and
grow in faith together. 'Paty in the Park, during summer months, annual
cOnferen￿S and various social events compliment pastoral care.
Helping those in need is a demonstration of our faith. Hope Community Shop
was officially opened on the 3rd December 2011, with the aim of bringing hope
to the Sheldon community- both practically and spiritually.
Relying solely on donations, we have provided". quality clothes, toys, books
and gtfts at bargain pri￿s. ServI￿S and activities to support the needs of local
people; community events at Christmas and Easter; and funding for local
projects from any profits.
With the lease on the premises due to expire in 2023. the CC decided not to
renew the lease. Therefore, Hope Community Shop closed its doors for the
last time on the 24th December 2023.
SCC continues to partner with several charities. disaster relief agencies and
missionary organisations in the UK and around the world, in line with the Cc's
Missions Policy. SCC remains a member of Hatchford Brook Churches
Together as well as part of various missional collaborations around the city.
Volunteers
The CC would like to thank all of our volunteers at SCC who work so hard to
ensure we are able to function as a vibrant church community.
Financial Review
The primary sources of funding for SCC are the free will offerings of church
members. This is supplemented by income tax recovered under the HMRC
Gift Aid scheme. We are thankful to every person who gives within the life of
our church.

The CC recognise the importance of a Reserves Policy to help practise good
stewardship and financial management. It is CC policy to maintain a balance
on unrestricted funds which equates to three months of operating costs, or a
minimum of£7,500.
Financial assets in excess of agreed reserves will generally be held in liquid
form, but may be invested in accordance with the church's risk profile, as per
the Cc's Investment Policy. Restricted funds on deposit are designated to
purchase land I buildings for SCC in accordan￿ with our CharitableArticles.
The financial results are set out in the enclosed accounts.
