  3. Update of Trustees

Chris informed the group that the transformation is currently underway is to support the ability to attract volunteers with a clearly identified role. The expectation is that there will be a clearly identified role for volunteers. This separates the uniformed leaders from the trustees board with the link between the two areas the GSL or newly named Lead Team Member, the leaders will become Team members and assistant team members.

Whitmore hall income only just covered outgoings this year, the group need to look at cost cutting wherever possible. After discussion around the broadband contract and phone line, it was agreed that there needs to be some exploration of changing.

Utilities are ever increasing in costs and there also may need to be a consideration to put up subs, or hall hire. There was concern raised form leaders about subs cost, this to be explored and spoken about at the next exec meeting.

10.Report from GSL

It has been a year of for the most part of slow but sure increase in movement of young people between the sections. Numbers had hit an all time low after covid however both Cub sections have seen an increase in numbers and while scouts had dropped to just 3 very numbers have started to increase with cubs reaching scout age.

Beavers we have the two sections one is full the other has seen a great deal transition to cubs so are now low in numbers, there will be a recruitment drive in the school as soon as it can be arranged.

We have started a Squirrel section which is currently full with a waiting list, some of the Squirrels are not short of 6 years old as such will be soon moving to beavers freeing up spaces.

ANNUAL REPORT ORSETT AND BULPHAN SCOUT GROUP

Edna Fox after some 55 years being involved is retiring as Beaver Leader, she has been offered the opportunity to come and join in whenever she wishes.

Dan and Martyn Smith have both decided that they wish to retire due to other life commitments between them 35 years at Orsett and Bulphan. While we will miss them Dan has agreed to be the group quartermaster which we all agree will be a great asset to the group.

I have agreed to take on scouts on a Tuesday night to fit with my commitments, this will run from 7.45 to link with Cubs for 15 minutes to support the cubs integrating with the scouts.

Treetops cubs have only recently gotten back on track post covid, their numbers have crept up and they are looking to start investing the young people that they have.

A very heartfelt thank you to all of the uniformed and non-uniformed members of the group that allow the young people to enjoy scouting, and have so much fun.

A big thank you to Alex Page who has stepped up to become Tigers cub leader which has freed up Evelyn Murphy to open our Squirrels Dray.

11.Report from District

No District Report

12.Closing Remarks

A big thank you to Edna, Martyn and Dan for all of the time, dedication and hard work that they have given to the group.

Chris Coles thanked all of the uniformed and non-uniformed team members for all that they have done over the last year, a special thanks to Nicola for not only keeping on top of the finances but for all of the applications for grants that she appears to excel at.
