Governing document

The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust, and constitutes an unincorporated charity.

Organisational structure

The trusteesare responsiblefor the overallmanagementand controlof the CIRP(UK)CharitableTrustand they meet twicea year,
once at the May meeting and the second time in the last week of August.
  Currently there are four trustees i.e.

(ii) Professor Stephen Newman
(iii) Professor Rajkumar Roy
(iv) Professor Srichand Hinduja (Secretary)
NewtrusteesarenominatedbyCIRP(U.K.)Ltd.,asisterconcern;thenomineemustbeaFellowofCIRPwhichensuresthat they
have the necessary experience to discharge their duties effectively and efficiently and also have a passion for CIRP and its activities.

Wider network

The trusteesare activelysupportedby other membersof the CIRP(UK) community.These membersact as volunteersin organizing
theMaymeetingsandtheGeneralAssemblywhenit is heldin theUK.Thesevolunteersandallthetrusteesgivetheirtime freely
and no remuneration is paid during the year.

Risk management

Thetrusteeshavea dutyto identifyand reviewthe risksto whichthe charityis exposedand to ensureappropriatecontrolsare in
place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.

Objectives and aims

1. To promote,support and undertakeeducationresearchstudy and the disseminationof useful informationinto and on all aspects
of production engineering and all other areas of engineering science and technology anywhere in the world.
2.anyothercharitableobjectsassociatedwiththecharity'sprimaryobjectivedefinedabovein anyotherpartoftheworldas the
trustees in their absolute discretion think fit to support or establish.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Significant activities and achievements

CIRPwasfoundedin1951withtheaimtoaddressscientifically,throughinternationalco-operation,issuesrelatedto modern
productionscienceandtechnology.TheInternationalAcademyforProductionEngineeringtakesitsabbreviatednamefrom the
Frenchacronymof(CIRP)and includessome600 worldwidemembers.The numberof membersis intentionallykept limited,so  as
to facilitate informal scientific information exchange and personal contacts.
CIRP has some 180 Fellowsand HonoraryFellowswho are internationallyrecognizedscientistselectedto be CIRP membersfor  life.
DuetothelimitednumberofCIRPFellows,theelectionofaFellowisalengthy,rigorousprocessensuringthehighest possible
academic standards.
CIRPincludessome150Associatememberswellknownscientists,withhighpotential,electedtypicallyfora periodofthree years
withthepossibilityofrenewal.AnumberofAssociatememberseventuallybecomeFellows.SomeAssociatemembersmay also
belong to fields related to Manufacturing.
CIRP,althoughanacademicorganization,encouragestheparticipationofindustryinitsactivities.Therearesome170 Corporate
memberswhofollowthe researchworkof the academicmembersof CIRP,and veryoftencontributeto the information exchange
withinCIRPbypresentingtheirviewsonindustrialneedsandperspectives.YoungResearchAffiliatesandsomeInvited members,
particularly from countries not yet involved in CIRP, are also included in the CIRP community.
WhilstCIRPisaninternationalorganization,theCIRP(UK)communityconsistsof26Fellows,6Associatemembers,10 Research
Affiliatemembersand7Corporatemembers,whoarealsomembersofCIRP(U.K.)Ltd.,whichisasisterassociationinthe UK.
EveryyearinthemonthofMay,CIRP(UK)CharitableTrusttogetherwithCIRP(U.K)Ltd.organizesameetingforoneanda half
days and at this meeting,all the Fellows,Associatemembers,ResearchAffiliatesand Corporatemembersare invitedtogether with
young aspiring researchers from academia and industry. At this meeting, the young researchers and invited industrialists:
TheyoungresearchersareencouragedtosubmitapaperontheirresearchandsubsequentlybecomemembersofCIRP. Only
high-qualitypapersforacceptedforpresentationattheGeneralAssemblybecausethecompetitionisfierce.Onceapaper is
acceptedby a youngresearcherwhois nota memberofCIRPorby a memberofCIRPwhohasnofunding,theTRUSTwillstep in
and support them financially.
This year the CIRP (UK) meeting was scheduledto be held at the Universityof Bristolbut becauseof Covid-19,it was decided that it
wouldbesafertoconducttheconferenceonlineusingZoom,whichmeantthatnoexpenseswereincurred.These meetings,
organizedand supportedby the TRUST,have been extremelysuccessfulas the size of the UK CIRP communityhas nearly doubled in
size over the last ten years.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Principal funding sources

Thefinancialstatementsshowanincomeof£78,345receivedfromConferCare(EventManagementServices)attheUniversity of
Manchester and an expense of £5,500 paid to CIRP (U.K) Ltd. to cover operational costs for the year 2020-21.
Onceevery10to15years,theTrustorganizestheCIRPGeneralAssembly,whichisaone-weeklongevent.Thefirsthalfof the
Assemblyis devotedto CIRPmembers,or researchersaspiringto becomemembers,presentingtheirresearchpaperswhilstin the
secondhalf,thereareshortpresentationsoncurrenton-goingworkfrommembersand/orinvitedguests,discussions about
collaborative work and keynote lectures.
In August2019,the Trustorganizedthe GeneralAssemblyin Birminghamat the InternationalConventionCentre.Sincethere were
about600delegatesfrom30differentcountriesattendingthisevent,itwouldhavedifficultfortheTrustanditsmembers to
organisethiseventandhenceitwassubcontractedtotheConferCareTeamatTheUniversityofManchester.Inadditionto the
educationalbenefitsthiseventbringstothestudents,academiaandpractisingmanufacturingengineers,itcreatesasocial event
which is of immense benefit to the local community without any cost to the Exchequer.

CIRP (UK) CHARITABLE TRUST
I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 March 2021, which are set out on pages four to seven.

Responsibilities and basis of report

Asthecharity'strusteesyouareresponsibleforthepreparationoftheaccountsinaccordancewiththerequirementsof the
Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').
Ihaveexaminedyourcharity'saccountsasrequiredundersection145oftheCharitiesAct2011('theAct').Incarryingout my
examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.
My role is to state whether any material matters have come to my attention giving me cause to believe:

1. that accounting records were not kept as required by section 130 of the Act; or

2. that the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3. that the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of the Act; or

4. that there is further information needed for a proper understanding of the accounts.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Accounting convention

Thefinancialstatementshavebeenpreparedunderthehistoricalcostconvention,theCharitiesAct2011and the
requirements of the Statement of Recommended Practice, Accounting and Reporting by Charities.

Incoming resources

AllincomingresourcesareincludedontheStatementofFinancialActivitieswhenthecharityislegallyentitledto the
income and the amount can be quantified with reasonable accuracy.

Resources expended

Expenditureis accountedforon an accrualsbasisand has been classifiedunderheadingsthataggregateall costrelated to
thecategory.Wherecostscannotbedirectlyattributedtoparticularheadingstheyhavebeenallocatedtoactivitieson a
basis consistent with the use of resources.

Taxation

The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restrictedfundscanonlybeusedforparticularrestrictedpurposeswithintheobjectsofthecharity.Restrictions arise
when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.
