The Rising Sun Arts Centre Ltd Trustees, Report Objectivaf, Strategi andaclivltids This y¢aT saw a major focus on the development of facilities and space at The Rising Sun Arts Centre in a number of areas. Major work w&$ undertaken to improve the centre and the physical surroundings. The Rising Sun Arts Centre oc¢upies a listed building and thuefore needs constant oare and attention. The Organisation worked with our landlord to manage a project to completely replace the centre's roo£ a project which meant major disTuption to the ¢entr¢'s work and access to the building. This was important work to ensure the future viability of the buildlng. The centre and its volunteers have also been involved in developing plans for a major refibIShMent of the centre both inside and out. This followed on from the work done by the Rising Sun in commissioning a feasibility study for the development of the sits and the buildings at 30 Silver Street. The Charity worked ¢losely with the building's owner and with architects on designs to CTeate an improved space, and to upgrade resources for the arts ¢entre with additional rooms and facilities. The proposed redevelopment would CTeafr a n]ore accessible and carbon neutral building and create an outdoor space which would improve the sense of COllLmunity at the centre. The Bising Sun, through a seri¢s of meetings of all voluntsers, ha5 begun a project to look Glosely at the work involved in rLll)ning the centre in preparation for the retirement of key personnel. and to identify the best way to utiIise paid staff within the centre. This has focused on how best to support volunteers in taking on more responsÉbility and increasing the provision of l)iJ-quality facilities and administrative support. This wtll enable the charity to refocus our priorities for the centre next year. ensuring that volunteers remaiu at the heart of what we do and that participation continues to be the drivino principle of our Work The Rising Sun Arts Centre l)as continued to attract new volunt¢¢t5 from a wide vaTiety of backgrounds and ontinues to build a strong and focused volunteer team. The centre has also continued to develop partnerships with other arts organisations and to develop its programme to be more diverse in art form5 and more iaclusive of communitie5 in Reading. Th¢ orwisation delivers a strong and varied programme which belies its limited resouwes. Publlc benefit The trnstees confirm that they have complied with the requirements of s¢¢tioll 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Comtni5sion for EnglaDd and Wales. Financial review Policy on reserves The Board have examined the Charity Con]mission's requirements for Reserves in light of the nlain risks to the organisation, and have consequently established a policy whereby the Reserves should cover 3 months, nllming Costs. Currentty this requires an amount of around £20,000. and we have been able to reach thi5 level. Page 3

The tnteeS actively review the major risks which the charity face5 on a regular basis and believe that rnaintaiJ)ing reserves at cent levels, combined wtth an annual review of the controls over key fmancial systems, will provide sufficient resources in the event of adverse conditions. They have also examined other operational and business risks faced by the ¢hatity and believe that they have establisbed systems to mitigate thcs¢ ri5k5.
