As we know, people living in rural oreos tend to Spend more on these essentiol costs due to lock of choice, high travel costs ond limited ovoilobility of affordable home5, More families ore being pusheci into relative poverty as o result. RAD responds to the needs of the Community in 5everol woys: we hove o strong focus on fuel and food poverty ond hove mode o reol difference to commup.ity pantry members who collectively saved opproximotely £900,000 compared lo supermorket price5. We have d15tribvted over £16.000 in hordship gronts to people struggling on a income. Members buying oil through our oil buying have collectively soved olmost £37,000. Like mony chorities we are keen to demonstrote the added volue of our work. This challenge is even more presslng in rvral communities. where there is often a lock of budget supermorkels and cheaper ollernotives. Qur Feeding Derbyshlre teom continue to develop the Affordoble Food Network. which consists of 8 community pantries ocross the countu. These ore community-run, member-based stores sel2ing nvtritious food and groceries for a fractlon of the cost of o svpermorket shop. We hove worked with the network lo support o ropidly growing membership, currently there ore 2.953 rnembers in total. The network continbes ro grow, ond S more pontries ore sel lo join the network Imminently. Our teom have estoblished a partnership with Chesterfield Footboll Club for food poverty initiatives, storting with donotion boxes al the stodivm. For those off moins gos and using oil, prices are not regulated, moking it impossible for some households to budget. While there moy be no formol methods for protecting off-gos households. RAD'5 collective borgoining power through our Community 015 Buying Scheme helps to keep cos15 at more monogeable levels. Lost yeor. we saved our 800 members on overage of 8 pence per litre on their heoting oll by negotioting with suppliers A tolol of 159 new members joined the scheme. and we ordered 443.154 litres of oil for them. collectively saving oround £37.000. Rvral Hardship Fund and Oil Bank We run o Rurol Hardship Fund to help people in rurol oreos of Derbyshire who are suffering extreme hordship. RAD helped with household costs through its Rurol Hardship Fund. Thls helps those who are ir) financiol hordship ond need help with critical expenses. If o cor. fridge, cooker or washing machine breoks down for instonce, mony people will struggle to find the money to get It repaired or replaced.
