AGM 22-23 summary

Dear Parents,

welcome to the Friends of St Monica’s AGM (Annual General Meeting). This meeting is needed as part of the Friends Charitable status but also a requirement set on our Constitution.

It is a great opportunity to reflect on last year’s events and but to also to highlight the challenges we face on this new 23-24 school year.

Current executive committee (Peachy, Eorann, Daniella, Breda & Nacho) was formed in September 2020 and as we say goodbye to our third and last year, we look forward to welcoming a new Executive & Ordinary Committees to continue supporting with raising the well needed money for our children’s school.

With school funding cuts, PTAs support has become critical to ensure that our kids have access to adequate resources to support their learning experience.

22-23 school period was the first year the Friends were able to set up a full calendar without any type of restrictions. Main objective was to run a solid calendar of events that would support a smooth transition to a future incoming committee. All events were conducted under safe conditions and truly enjoyed by children, parents, relatives, and teachers.

Friends Committee continues improving how money is raised and streamed from donation to Friends account until it reaches school to purchase resources. The Friends continued using Invest on my Community to request event donation & ticketing.

For new parents and anyone else who might not be aware, ‘Invest on my

RESTRICTED

Community’ is a not-for-profit fundraising platform with a mission statement aimed to help UK charities raise and collect funds.

In addition, we have considerably increased the usage of contactless readers to minimise cash handlings, and this is becoming the preferred method for payment on our school events.

As our three-year term comes to an end, we would like to communicate total amount of money fundraised and donations to the school. Total amount raised: £86,556 Total amount donated to school: £89,201

Friends Treasurer will provide a more in detail financial report.

Here is some of the highlights for 22-23

Friends started 22-23 fundraising campaign by volunteering at St Monica’s church by hosting tea, coffee, and cakes after mass. Such an event brought a lot participation in terms of amazing cakes, in addition to providing a service to our church community, it raised a total of £400.

Happy bags school clothes collection, even though the price for KG went down due to pandemic. Collections raised around £1340

School teachers made possible one of the children favourite event, School discos. It is always great to see kids dancing, enjoying, and coming home exhausted ready to go to bed. School disco raised £1360 (90% profit).

This year we celebrated of our first Christmas Bazaar in the last three years. Children, parents, and school staff made possible an amazing celebration. Christmas Bazaar was extremely successful fundraising a total of £9500

New year started with great initiatives such ‘Last One Standing’ for football fanatics, Valentine card sale, and ‘A Star is Born’. Great to see how much talent there is in our school. These events raised around £2000.

During the spring PTA hosted World Book Day and 90s Disco Night raising a total of £2000.

Sumer time is generally the PTA busiest summer period. We had an amazing day for the Summer Fete. Indoor and outdoor activities, BBQ and Music made a great celebration. Event raised £9000 inclusive of raffle and brochure. I would like to take the opportunity to highlight our new Eco-friendly brochure (no paper) proofed popular amongst our local businesses but also reduce the amount of waste it produced. We also had Year 6 Production raising £700.

In addition, there were and are other ongoing initiatives constantly raising money such as Facebook Preloved group, Ice cream stall, Uniform Sale, coffee fundraisers and many more.

We would like thanks all parents that give their time to organise events and bring to

the school community closer.

Our last event as a committee, Quiz Night was an outstanding success. Amazing food, excellent atmosphere, and tables with very clever people. It raised a total of £3000.

We believe this year was a success in terms of raising funds. 22-22 saw a fundraising total of £35400.

Treasurers Eorann will give a more detail report which will be emailed together with this summary report.

Where all the money goes? All money raised goes straight to the school to fund learning resources such as IPads, laptop suites, software licensing, music and swimming lessons, smart boards, playground equipment, books, screen projectors…

Looking into our last year, we believe we face great challenges to keep fundraising money for our school and children. Challenges are mostly due the rising cost of living.

We noticed that costs of running events have increased considerably, therefore the Friends Committee has had to make changes to best balance raising funds whilst making events always affordable to all.

To all parents, we are open to suggestions and initiatives. If you have a fundraising idea, we are here to help by setting up fundraising pages and use our communication channels and help to make the event a success and raise lots of money for the school.

It has been a real honour working with Daniela, Eoran & Alex, Peachy and Nacho the wider committee.

We all standing down and therefore our roles are available for nomination and election.

Current executive committee will remain as ordinary committee member to smooth transitioning.

To conclude this AGM summary, we believe this 22-23 year has been a great year. Children, teachers, parents and the whole school staff and community have stepped up to this great challenge and made a real difference.

We are happy to continue working together with Kate, Tony, school staff, parents, and everyone to make the school a special place for our children.
