autonomously
and also as part ofa
team.
Squads work hard to develop their
gymnasts
to a level where they can
compete
in local, national,
and even
international
levels.
We continued
to adapt this year with
COVID requirements
to ensure the
safety to coaches and gymnasts
alike.
During the year TG AGS &Artistic took
part in various competitions
and grades
TeamGym junior boys qualified,
competed
and came third
in the British
Finals in April 2022. It is the first time
WGC have had ajunior boys team
compete at the Finals.
This year because of Covid we were not
able to carry out our annual
gala, we are
now busy preparing
the 2023 Gala. The
theme is Mystical, mythical,
magic.
Waterside
gym club also realise the
importance
ofcoach involvement
and
development
and pay for all necessary
training courses. During the year we
have
ut thou
h 9x Level 1 coaches in
both Team Gym and Artistic.
We also
have a further 4booked on for this year.
As expected however,
we lose a high
proportion
ofour junior coaches each
year to university
and this year has
been no exception. While many ofthem
do often return to coach in the holidays,
it does increase the staffing
levels
pressure
during term time. We are
therefore
currently
encouraging
and
nurturing
new juniors into the role of
coaching to help build our support
base. We are also actively looking to
recruit new parents tojoin our bank of
parent helpers and possible future
coaching staff as coaching numbers
is
something
that the club is struggling
with currently.
This is a countrywide
problem at the moment,
within
both
voluntary
and paid coaching positions
and so WGC is currently
working
hard
to encourage
members to offer as much
oras little time as they can in order to
ensure the club's survival.
All coaches are also required to
complete
regular safeguarding
courses
in order to ensure not only the physical
safety ofthe children
involved
but also
their personal
and mental well-being.

Explanation of any Para 1.23 Due to changes
in lifestyle and family
uncertainties about the working
patterns,
WGC are struggling
to
charity continuing as a going enlist coaches at the moment.
While it
is
concern mildly noticeable
within the junior level,
it is very problematic
from an
adult/parent
level. WGC rely heavily on a
strong, voluntary,
parental
helper basis
who, often go on to excel and undertake
more responsibilities
by completing
coaching exams. With less and less
adults able to give up time to the club,
we in turn have less and less coaches
coming through
the system. WGC also
recognise that the majority ofsessions
rely on a handful
of high-level
coaches
who have worked for the club for a long
time, with several looking to possibly
step down
in the near future. This is a
serious concern for Waterside as, at
present, we do not necessarily
have the
coaching levels for new people to step
up to take over the running
ofthe
sessions. Therefore, the club is
currently
advertising
for new members
and encouraging
and supporting
coach
development
and empowerment.
