All of our trustees are parents of children who currently or have recently attended our sessions. Parents are encouraged to provide input into the running of the Cylch whether for fund raising or as committee or sub-committee members. All parents are encouraged to attend the Annual General Meeting.

New committee members/trustees receive a comprehensive handover from existing members and also a period of shadow working is carried out to ensure a seamless transfer.

We are associated with Mudiad Meithrin who will also give an induction training session to new committee members.

We regularly consult the Mudiad Meithrin support officer who is available for advice for organisational, policy making and staffing issues. They support us in appointing staff but do not make any decisions.

We are also supported by the Local Authority appointed education support officer who gives out staff support with our aims. We are registered with the Care Inspectorate Wales, and work within their rules and regulations

Section C Objectives and activities

Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document

Pre-school education is an important step towards full time education. Our aim is to introduce a range of different learning and developmental experiences which will provide an educational foundation for the children. Good communication with parents is important to us. A close working relationship with parents benefits the children who attend.

The service provided is through the medium of Welsh and the children and parents are encouraged to follow a Welsh medium education following their time with us at the Cylch

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

The Cylch Meithrin follows the foundation phase and provides education through play indoor and outdoor within seven key areas:

• Mathematics

• Language (Welsh Language development)

• Language, Literacy and Communication, Personal and Social Development

• Creative Development

• Knowledge and Understanding of the World

• Physical Development

The leader plans the education for the children with support from the local authority support teacher that comes in to the Cylch on a regular basis. The activities provided are focused around the child, providing opportunities to learn individually as well as with their peers, (e.g. stories, singing, outdoor play areas, indoor play areas, exploring ideas, sharing ideas and including the children in the planning). Learning and socialising with their peers is encouraged through play, stories and singing through the medium of Welsh

The Cylch can register for nineteen children within one academic year from the age of two and a half years to pre-school age. We provide 3 sessions to satisfy the need of the families within our community:

• Cylch Meithrin: foundation phase structured learning

• Lunch Session (Clwb Cinio): Children from the Cylch stay to have lunch at the school and childcare is provided. Children that attend the school in the morning also join the Cylch for this session.

• Afternoon session (Meithrin Mwy): Children are cared for at the care session. This session is available for Cylch Meithrin children as well as children that attend the School in the morning.

During the year, we work in partnership with the school, offering opportunities for the children and the parents to visit the school that is located on the same grounds as the Cylch Meithrin. There are also opportunities to join with the school pupils to have school dinner provided daily. This supports the children and the parents when transitioning to the school.

We depend on fundraising and support from the parents and the community, during this year we had a range of different fundraising activities including a Halloween disco, a Christmas pack, and a sponsored walk.

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

We have battled through covid during these hard times, making sure staff and children are safe in our Cylch.. We have continued to have good attendance at the Cylch and have a stable workforce.

The wraparound sessions work well and serve the community and the needs of the parents. We have also attracted parents from further afield due to the service and reputation that we have.

New volunteer trustees have taken over some of the roles and the handover has been successful.

Further fundraising has taken place which helps to ensure the stability of the Cylch Meithrin in the long term.
