Objectives and aetivities The charlty's main activities BHI is a community Engagement Organisation which works to supply equality of access to health and social Lare provisions wilhiii Leeds, the Yorkshire Region and nalionally for disadvantaged and Irjarginalised and marginalised communities. Bl-11 runs projects undcr the uinbrella of Flealth and Wellbeing: Teena e Health an Wellbein is a project that aims to keep young people up to date with inforination aboul their healih. We enga&Fe and motivate our service users regarding education and work wilh them to develop healthy lifestyle choices. These programmes are broken down into four main areas which are social, emotional, educational and physical health. Men's Health and W ein ro ect provides physiologjical, psychological and practical support to predominantly African, Caribbean and Dual-Herilagye men who suffer froin the eft'ccts of social, cultiirul or Atrican envoirnment factors that have R specific impact on men's emotional and physical well-being. Women's Flealth and Well-bcin encourages women to cominunicate with each other about health issues that affect them, support the development of health focussed aciivities with the aim to raisc sclf csteein, ¢ncouragc participation in making informed decisions about their health treatments and improve women's health and well being citywide. CoLinsel lin and MentAI Health Wellbein which works with UKCP and BACP coiinsellor/p8ychotherapy specialists trainL'd specifically to work with the African, African Caribbean and Dual Heritage client g7roup. We strong7ly believe that carly intervention addrcsses the psychological and emotional difficulties peoples are experiencing and may reduce the risk of later mental health issues/crises occurring.

We aim to do this by working in activity and productive partnership with statutory bodies, large charities and the privat¢ sector. Achievements 2nd nerlnrmance Continued to support service users across all key areas with a focus on mental health and further developed the community kitchen. SuLcesslully delivei'ed the Black Music festival August 2022. Received the Queen's Award t.or Voluntary Service froin the Ird Lieutancnt at the Annudl Gener<il Meeling in February 2023. Financial review I'he net expenditrue for the year was £27,473, including net Income of £132,713 on unrestricted funds and net expenditure of £54,051 on restriLted funds after trdnsfers. Reserves policy The charity's free reserves, excluding fixed assets, at the year end were £155,427 Black Health Initiative aims to kecp rescrves of up to 3 months equivalent trading. BLACK HEALTH INITIATIVE (BHI) NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2024 l Accounting Policies Basi5 of accounting The accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention with items recognised at cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the revevani note(s) to these accounts. The financial statements prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with tlie Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (¢ffective l January 2015) and with the Charities Act 2022. The charity constitutes a public benefit entity a% defined by FRS 102. Reconciliation with previous Generally Accepted Practice in preparing the accounts. The trustees have considered whether in applying the accounting policies required by FRS 102 and the i'estatement of compardtive items was required. They have deterniined that no such restatement is required. As a consequence. there has beeii no change to Ihe accounting policies siiice last year. No changie have been made to the accounts for previous years. Incoming resources All inconiingi re%ourc¢s ae included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SOFA) when the charity becomes ciitilled to thc resourcc, the trustees virtually certain they will receiv¢ the resources and tlie monetary valuc can bc measured with sufficient reliability. Grants & donations Grants and donations are only included in the SOFA when the charity has unconditional entitlcment to Éhe resources. Where grants arc related to perfomiance and specific deliverable, they are accounted for as the charity earns the rigiht to consideration by its perforniance. Lxpcnditures and liabilities Expenditures are recognised on an accrual basis as a liability incurred. Liabilities are i'ecognised as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to pay out the resources. Taxation As a charity the organisation benefits from rates relief and generally exempt from income tax and capital gain tax but not from V AT. Irrecoverable V AT is included in the cost of those items to which it rel<lt¢s. Tangible fixed assets Tangible fixed assets costing more than £1,700 are capitalised and included at cost including any incidental expenses of acquisition. Gifted assets are shown at the value to the charity on receipt. Depreciation is provided on all tangible fixed assets at rates calculated to write off the cost oil a straight line basis over their expected useful lives. Pensions The charity operates a defined contribution scheme for the benefits of its cmployees. The costs of contributions are recognised in the year thcy are payabl¢. Fund accounting Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity. RestriLted funds are subjected to restrictions on their expendilure imposed by the donor or througih the ternis of an appeal.
