In order to further these objects the Charity will: 1) Undertake and manage research programmes. 2) Publish and disserninate the results of that research. 3) Undertake presentations on the resurts of the research. 4) Organise conferences, seminars and cournes on relevant topical issues. The Charity will operate in England and Wales but the beneficial area is nalional and intemational.

The Arthroplasty for Arthritis Charty are supporting important research from ExplantLab with the Dir Dr David Langton, specrfically their project 'Dovèloping a novel algorithm to predict the risk of metalwoll-polyethylene Jolnt replacement fallure,. ExplantLab are researching the variables associated with the success or failure of joint replacement including the role of implant design, manufacturing and surgical technique. The complexities of the response and the influence of immunogenetics on a patient's propensity to develop arthritis are also scrutinised. Dr David Langton and his researchers have now published their ground-breaking work in 2022 in N- Communications Medicine in an article entrtled.. The influonce of HLA genotype on the d8velopm8nt metal hypersensitivity following joint TrplaGement. They concluded that more resources should be directed towards improving the understanding of host-specific responses to implant materials, rathei focussing on controlling surgical factors. The request was for funding for £102.652.02 over years to fui post4octorate researcher part-lime and this matched the funding which was being provided by The Roselrees Trust (total cost of the project £205,304.04). The Director of the charity. Evert Smith, engaged with a media student from the University of th8 Wi England in 2022, in the development fo a podcast on "E-scooter Injuries in the UK" This was als written about in social media in October 2023, to highlight the dangers of e-scooter use. Th8 Trustees were pleased to announce that Sirnon Breakwell accepted their invitation to become a of Arthroplasty for Arthritis Charity. Simon has had a dynamic career. A politics graduate, he joined the Brilish Airways graduate sche where he worked for eight years, before making his name in the tech industry as on8 of the pioneer., online world. In 1998 he moved to Seattle, vthere he ctrfounded Expedia and in 2012 he led Ubef s expansion inl Europe. He has held many non-executive roles with travel tech firms such as Onefinestay and Hom He was Chaiman at bd4travel, board member at Part-timeBeli8ve and Chair of Genius Sports. In 21 Simon joined the AA as Chief Executive Officer before becoming DepLrty Chairman and was on the advisory board of British AlayS from 2014-2016. Simon maintains many roles in business, includin Chair at Enviola, and S6nior Adviser at Fairview and SilverRail. We also gained 2 new Trustees, Professor Mehool Acharya and Mr Phil Collard. Prof Acharya is a I orthopaedic surgeon. Phil Collard, who works in finance, has experien of running a charily and is recipient of bilateral hip joint replacements - this, however, has not hindered him in the past, and he been extrernely active and successful in fitness and in the sport of cycling. Fund raising continues to be difficult but Gonsiderable work has been done to engage funding and w regularly written to various organisations. The Charity remains in debt to The Tompkins Foundalion, the Wyseliot Rose Charitable Trust, The Inchcape Foundation and the Joseph Strong Fraz8r Trust who continue to support our endeavours. remain indebted to webree.com and Proctor + Stevenson Lld for their expertise and considerable o help. Sadly, a close family member of a trustee of The Tompkins Foundation experienced a very sad bereavement in January 2023. One of our trustees, Dr Diana Pomeroy has been very supportive of family. The financial statements have been prepared under the hisloric cost convention in accordance ¥Mlh the Slatement of Recommended Practice.. Accounting and Reporting by Charities (SORP 20051 and the Charities Act 2011. Ib) Incoming resources and resources expended..
