Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective l January 2015). Prineipal Activity The chartty is a charitable company limited by guarantee and was set up on 8 September 1995 and rcgistcred as a charity on 8 September 1995. It is governed by a memorandum and articles of &8sociation. The principal activities of the company are to relieve: l. The aged and unemployed in particular those of Caribbean and African origin in East London by the provision of facilitics for recreation or leisure time occupation ivith th¢ object of itnproving their conditions of life. 2. Poverty amongst retired persons. in particular those of CAribbean aDd African origill in East London. 3. To provide suppo¢ assistance and care to elderly African and Caribbean men and women. Results The fmancial positKon of the charity at the end of the f￿ancIal year is as detailed in the attached fmancial statements. Incomc for the year was £34.205. Review of Activities During the Y&qr During the reporting perio￿ we extend our sincere appreciation to Ms. Lynnett CaTr-Arnistrong and Ms. Belinda Foster. who resigned from the Board in March 2024. for their valued contributions. We are pleased to welcome Mr. J. Opara as a newly appointed Director and look forward to his input in the year ahead. Operational Overview This year presented significant opeTational challenges. The residual impact of the COVID-19 lockdow￿ combined with rising Costs and debt inCu￿ed from legal proceedings. placed onsid¢rable pressur¢ on the Association. These proceedings 3veTe necessary to defend against Newham Council's attempt to r¢vok¢ the Association's premises licence. While the Association was ultimately successful in retaining the licence. a series of restrictive conditions have since been in)posed. These conditions have materially affected the natsre of our services. particularly in the area of entertainment. Operating hours were scaled bacL compliance costs ros¢, and the r¢sulting limitations have bad an adverse effect on earned income.

Hibiscus Caribbean Elderly Association Day Celltre Services Recovery of the Day Centre service remains slow. Attendance has not exceeded fiv¢ regular clients, and referrals from the local authority have been negligible. with only one received during the year. This shaty decline in local authority engagement has had a notable impact on service viability. Digital Services and Community Reach The Association continued to adapt through th¢ dclivery of digital services. Thc Hibiscus Virtual Gall¢ry and BRUKOUT-our platforni for streamino live musical perforniances-remained active. Our YouTube channel. Hibiscus Community Centre. achieved and surpassed its tsrget of 500 subscribers. Hibiscus Live Community Radio was also successfully launched, and preparatory work has been undertaken to coordinate content across various digitsl platfornis. These efforts lay the foundation for future monetisation. Partnerships and Initiatives The Association strengthened partnerships within th¢ cultural and health sectors. Notable collaborations with Sadler's Wells, DrumbeaL So¢a Massive. and Dub Exposure Band have enhanced programme delivery and volunteer engagement. A new partnership wÉth Newham Public H¢alth enabled the launch of a free Vitamin D tablet distribution programme. Membership and Community Support Members and Friends continue to provide ess¢nlial support lo the Ass￿lation. However. formal membership numbers hav¢ declined and will require dedicated action to rebuild and re-engage the community base. Future Plans In looking to the future our priority will be in securing a long tern? l¢&s¢ for our premises from Newham Council. Serious efforts will be made to upgrade services across th¢ board by utilising th¢ instruments of new technology. A website and online media platfomis will be established with a view to raising the profile of the organisation whilst marketing its services VoluDteers Volunteers continue to be the backbone of the service. Day Care delivered on Tuesday and Thursday between the hours of 10.00am -3.30pm continue to be popular ivith a heahhy attendance. Attendees participate in a range of activities i7thich encourage physical and mental ivellbein& and help to promote the individuals independence and selfesteem. The luncheon Club continues to provid¢ culturally appropriate meals.

Under that law the directors have elected to prepare the financial ststements in accordanc¢ with United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (United Kingdom Accounting Standards and applicable law). At 31 March 2024. the unrestricted reserve was £8.681. We a￿ actively seeking to raise morc funds to increase thc amount of free ￿serVeS. Decision Making The directors meet about oncc every 2 months to review the prog￿SS of the chartty and to mak¢ any decisions that are needed to keep the organisation in pursuit of its objectives. Directors Selection Method The diTectors are elected at the Annual General Meeting to serve for a terni of one year. Risk Review The directors are undertakino a complete risk assessment of all activities of the company.
