Review of Activities During the Y&qr
During the reporting perio￿ we extend our sincere appreciation to Ms. Lynnett CaTr-Arnistrong
and Ms. Belinda Foster. who resigned from the Board in March 2024. for their valued
contributions. We are pleased to welcome Mr. J. Opara as a newly appointed Director and look
forward to his input in the year ahead.
Operational Overview
This year presented significant opeTational challenges. The residual impact of the COVID-19
lockdow￿ combined with rising Costs and debt inCu￿ed from legal proceedings. placed
onsid¢rable pressur¢ on the Association. These proceedings 3veTe necessary to defend against
Newham Council's attempt to r¢vok¢ the Association's premises licence. While the Association
was ultimately successful in retaining the licence. a series of restrictive conditions have since been
in)posed.
These conditions have materially affected the natsre of our services. particularly in the area of
entertainment. Operating hours were scaled bacL compliance costs ros¢, and the r¢sulting
limitations have bad an adverse effect on earned income.

Hibiscus Caribbean Elderly Association
Day Celltre Services
Recovery of the Day Centre service remains slow. Attendance has not exceeded fiv¢ regular
clients, and referrals from the local authority have been negligible. with only one received during
the year. This shaty decline in local authority engagement has had a notable impact on service
viability.
Digital Services and Community Reach
The Association continued to adapt through th¢ dclivery of digital services. Thc Hibiscus Virtual
Gall¢ry and BRUKOUT-our platforni for streamino live musical perforniances-remained active.
Our YouTube channel. Hibiscus Community Centre. achieved and surpassed its tsrget of 500
subscribers.
Hibiscus Live Community Radio was also successfully launched, and preparatory work has been
undertaken to coordinate content across various digitsl platfornis. These efforts lay the foundation
for future monetisation.
Partnerships and Initiatives
The Association strengthened partnerships within th¢ cultural and health sectors. Notable
collaborations with Sadler's Wells, DrumbeaL So¢a Massive. and Dub Exposure Band have
enhanced programme delivery and volunteer engagement. A new partnership wÉth Newham Public
H¢alth enabled the launch of a free Vitamin D tablet distribution programme.
Membership and Community Support
Members and Friends continue to provide ess¢nlial support lo the Ass￿lation. However. formal
membership numbers hav¢ declined and will require dedicated action to rebuild and re-engage the
community base.
Future Plans
In looking to the future our priority will be in securing a long tern? l¢&s¢ for our premises from
Newham Council. Serious efforts will be made to upgrade services across th¢ board by utilising th¢
instruments of new technology. A website and online media platfomis will be established with a view
to raising the profile of the organisation whilst marketing its services
VoluDteers
Volunteers continue to be the backbone of the service. Day Care delivered on Tuesday and Thursday
between the hours of 10.00am -3.30pm continue to be popular ivith a heahhy attendance. Attendees
participate in a range of activities i7thich encourage physical and mental ivellbein& and help to
promote the individuals independence and selfesteem. The luncheon Club continues to provid¢
culturally appropriate meals.

year ended 31 March 2024 which comprisc the Statemenl of Financial Activiti￿ the Balance Sheet
and related notes.
This report is made solely to the charity's trustees. as a body. in accordancc wilh section 145 of the
Charities Act 2011. My work has been undertaken so that I might state to the charty's trustees those
matters I am ￿qUired to state to them in this report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent
perniitted by law, I do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the charity and the

Responsibilities 2nd basis of report
As the trnstees of chatitable company you ar¢ responsible for the preparation of the fmancial
statements in accordance ivith the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('th¢ 2006 Act,).
Having satisfied myself that the financial statements of the charitable company are not required to be

Charities Act 2011 ('Ihe 2011 Acl.) and in carrying out my examination I hav¢ followed all the
applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5){b) of the 201 l Act.
An independent examination does not involve gathcring all the evidence ihat would be required in an
audit and conscquently does not cover all the matters that an auditor considers in giving their opinion
on the financial statements. The planning and conduct of an audit goes Iwond the limited assiirance
that an independent examination can provide. Consequently I express no opinion &s to whether th¢
fmancial staternents present a 'true and fair. view and my report is limited io those specific matt¢rs set
out in the indep¢nd¢nt cxamin¢T'S Statement.

> the financial statements do not accord with thos¢ records: or
> the ftnancial statements do not comply with thc accountin(T requirements of section 396 of the
2006 Act other than any requiretnent that the financial statements give a 'true and fair view
which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination" or
> the fmancial statements have not been prwed in accordance with the methods and principles
of the Stst¢tn¢nt of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by Charities
applicable to charities preparing thetr accounls in accordance with the Financial Reporting
Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to
which attention should be drnwn in this report in order to enable a Proper understanding of the
financial statements to bc reached.
