KING GEORGE’S FIELD, RAYDON
(Charity Number 1048676)
ANNUAL REPORT
for the year ending 28[th] February 2025
The 2024/25 year has been an extremely busy one for KGF’s Trustees. In addition to overseeing the normal running of the field and pavilion the year’s activities were dominated by fundraising events and the on-going project to build a new pavilion.
Over the last 12 months the playing fields remained in regular use, with Brett Vale and East Bergholt football clubs renewing annual agreements for hire of the football pitches, whilst Hadleigh United have hired pitches on a match-by-match basis. We also received a one-off fee from National Grid for access to survey parts of the field.
Raydon Sports & Social Club and Raydon & District Gardening Club continued as long-standing tenants of the pavilion, with the Church holding a number of their fundraising events there as well as running monthly coffee mornings for the village. Other hires included yoga, crafts and birthday celebrations. In total, the revenue raised from hiring out the facilities was £6,200.
The Trustees organised three major village events during the year. As well as raising funds towards the cost of the new pavilion, these events provided a good opportunity for the local community to come together. In June a Family Fun Day attracted good numbers with many activities and stalls for both children and adults. September saw a repeat of the popular Oktoberfest event and, with assistance from a Suffolk County Council Locality Grant, we were able to purchase our own marquee which enabled us to increase the size of this event to 150 tickets. Finally the annual bonfire night event took place in November with another huge turnout for what is a very popular event in the local area. Together these events generated additional revenue of £4,700.
At the start of the year initial drawings existed for the new pavilion, and these had been modified following feedback from village consultations in the previous year. In April we initiated a dialogue with Babergh Planning Department and took on Ben Elvin as our Planning Consultant. Pre-Planning Approval was granted by Babergh in May. The Trustees arranged meetings with Suffolk FA and the Football Foundation with a view to obtaining additional funding towards the new building. However, following these discussions, it became clear that achieving the specifications required would involve a substantial increase to the size of the new building. Not only would this be expensive but it would mean designing changing facilities that far exceeded the needs of local teams. At the same time there was no certainty that we could meet other Football Foundation requirements or that grant funds would ultimately be available. It was therefore decided not to go down this route and to revert to the original drawings which more closely mirrored the size of the current changing facilities.
Ahead of applying for Planning Approval a variety of environmental surveys were arranged, with our Planning Application finally submitted at the end of November. A decision on this is
imminent. In parallel with seeking planning permission, we also submitted a formal application to Babergh for CIL funding. Further discussions on this are scheduled for April.
The Trustees would like to thank Raydon Parish Council for their continuing financial support, both towards the cost of utility bills and field maintenance but also for agreeing allocations from their CIL budget to meet the cost of the various surveys necessary to accompany the planning application as well as paying the planning fee. Equally we would like to thank Suffolk County Council for its grant towards the cost of the marquee and Raydon Sports & Social Club who contributed a further £4,000 to KGF reserves during the course of the year.
At the end of the year KGF reserves had increased by £10,900 to stand at £25,000, providing a significant start to raising funds for the new pavilion.
