Trustees’ Annual Report for the period

From 01.09.2024 to 31.08.2025

Charity name: Anstey Junior School PTA

Charity registration number: 1043326

Objectives and Activities

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 To advance the education of pupils in the
school in particular by:
•Developing effective relationships
between the staff, parents and others
associated with the school.
•Engaging in activities or providing
facilities or equipment which support the
school and advance the education of the
pupils.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or services
identified in the accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
This year has seen a number of fundraising
events, which have brought together the
school as a community, as well as providing
vital funds for additional activities and
equipment that the school budget cannot
stretch to. In the spring term, we held a
Krispy Kreme doughnut sale which
generated lots of excitement in school as
families ordered and then awaited delivery of
their sweet treats. We also held termly
raffles to win themed hampers made up from
items donated by our families, again creating
a buzz in school amongst children, parents
and staff alike. Mother’s and Father’s Day
gift sales were popular with the children as
they chose the perfect present for their loved
one(s), whilst several social events – the
Christmas Fair, exuberant Colour Run,
Summer Fair and Summer Discos -
combined fundraising with making memories
for our children, their families and school
staff.
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit
Para 1.18 In planning our activities for the year, we
kept in mind the Charity Commission’s
guidance on public benefit at our trustee
meetings. All events were designed to
engage children at the school and their
families, to build a community feeling, whilst
at the same time providing a material benefit
to children at the school.

Additional information (optional)

Contribution made by
volunteers
Para 1.38 We are grateful to all the member volunteers
who selflessly give their time and energy to
organise fundraising events for the school.
Many of the experiences the children enjoy
in school and much of the equipment they
have available to use would not be there
without these volunteers.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 Our main expenditure this financial year has
been on a prefabricated structure that has
become the school’s Nurture Building. The
funding for this has come from a grant
provided to the PTA by East Hampshire
District Council. This additional classroom
has been installed just behind the main
school building on the edge of the school
field. With large windows and a glazed door,
this light and airy room is cosily furnished
and is the perfect tranquil space for the
school’s Thrive-trained staff to carry out
interventions with both small groups and
individual children who need additional
support with their learning, behaviour and
emotions. At lunchtimes, the Nurture
Building is the location for the school’s Calm
Club, where children who prefer quieter
activities can escape the hubbub of the
playground. Having a designated, enclosed
space for nurture activities gives greater
privacy and security to children who need
this type of support and means that all
resources for these interventions can be
stored in a single location and are readily
accessible when needed by staff. Other
locations around the school that were
previously used for these types of activities
are now available for use by visiting
professionals such as Family Support
Workers, Social Workers, Community
Nurses and Speech and Language
Therapists which is hugely helpful as the
school is busy and private areas for these
types of visits are sometimes difficult to find.
Another highlight funded by the PTA this
year was Treehouse Theatre’s visit to the
school in January to perform a pantomime
for the children. The interactive show was
received with enthusiasm and children
relished the chance to be involved in the
action themselves. For many, this was their
first experience of a live performance and
something they will remember for years to
come.
The PTA also funded interactive history

workshops for children in years 3 and 4, as well as Sublime Science workshops for the whole school, helping to bring these subjects to life and make them memorable for children in a way that is not always possible in the classroom. At the end of the school year, the year 6 children were all able to take away with them a lasting memory of their time at Anstey Junior School in the form of a group photograph, paid for by the PTA.

Financial Review

Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 Cash at the bank at 31.08.2025 was £15,081
in unrestricted funds and £14,113 in
restricted funds.
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 We would normally aim to hold
approximately £5,000 of unrestricted funds
in reserve to cover the charity’s operational
costs for the year.
We have plans to draw on our remaining
unrestricted funds in the next financial year
to help reinvigorate the school’s former pond
area by transforming it into an outdoor
learning area with a classroom-sized shelter,
a story chair, outdoor musical instruments,
benches and planters. We also plan to have
an old outdoor shelter demolished and a
new path put in. We will need to apply for
additional grants to complete the full extent
of the works planned but we are hopeful of
receiving a contribution from the local
council’s CIL fund. The new outdoor area will
be made available for the school’s
neighbour, Bushy Leaze children’s nursery,
to use too.
Our remaining restricted funds from the East
Hampshire District Council grant we
received will be used to landscape the area
around the school’s Nurture Building and
instal a nature-inspired vinyl mural across its
whole rear internal wall.

Additional information (optional)

Policies and procedures
adopted for the induction and
training of trustees
Para 1.51 The current trustees originally became
involved in the PTA as parents and have
subsequently become employees of the
school and as such, have undergone the
relevant enhanced DBS checks to comply
with the school’s child safeguarding policy.
Any trustees appointed in the future would
also be subject to a DBS check.
Parent volunteers with the PTA are not
routinely subject to a DBS check unless they
are likely to be in a situation where they
have unsupervised contact with children. In
the course of fundraising events, volunteers
are in a public place and there are always
school staff on hand to supervise.
All trustees give their time voluntarily and
received no remuneration or other benefits.
