1.0 Charitable objectives
To advance the education of children below compulsory school age by:
- 1.1 Providing safe, stimulating and age-appropriate play experiences along with the support and help of adults to extend their social and emotional development and promote their physical and intellectual growth.
The Pre-School provided experiences for the children adhering to the statutory Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.
1.2 Helping to develop their confidence, self-esteem and independence which will enable them to move forward with ease into the infant school.
Transfer forms were shared with local feeder schools. Staff attended the annual local authority transition evening to discuss individual children. The majority of children had achieved the age appropriate level in personal, social and emotional development, ensuring that they were ready to successfully transition into their reception class.
-
1.3 Recognizing that parents are the first and foremost educators of their children.
-
Regular engagement took place with parents. Initial contact was made with parents/carers and ‘getting to know you’ records were completed.
As a committee we complied with the charitable objectives
2.0 Financial Review
-
2.1 The Preschool aimed to maintain a 2% reserve from income in order to allow for role number variations.
-
2.2 See also separate accounts.
-
2.3 Following the financial irregularities reported in 2018, the Preschool has taken a cautious approach to rebuilding financial stability over the last 12 months.

- 2.4 The treasurer and trustees have worked closely with the new manager and existing staff and have implemented much higher levels of financial scrutiny. During 2019, in order to closely track expenditure, the treasurer maintained financial control with all transactions and, other than petty cash, spending authority was removed from the pre-school manager and reduced to request level only.
3.0 Other
-
3.1 Staff continued to work hard to rebuild the confidence of the parents and community during 2019 and as a result, the number of children attending increased.
-
3.2 Following recruitment of the new manager, in September 2019 the committee carried out induction and ensured that new financial measures were in place to reduce any further risk.
-
3.3 Following the outbreak of Covid-19, in March 2020, Queens Park Preschool offered places to vulnerable children and those of critical workers, however, due to lack of take up, it was considered unviable to remain open. Staff continued to work from home and undertook online training and personal development.
-
3.4 The preschool reopened in June 2020 following the national pandemic lockdown. Due to parental concerns relating to the spread of the virus, the number of children attending was significantly reduced.
