Bantham Surf Life Saving Club Trustees Annual Report for the period From 1/10/2024 to 30/9/2025 Charity Name: Bantham Surf Life Saving Club Charity Registration Number: 1036210 Objects and Activities: l) The prevention and reduction of loss of life by drowning on the beach" 2) The promotion and development of surf life saving, for the resuscitation of the rescued and application of first aid. Summary of main activities: Education/training The advancement of Health or Saving Lives Amateur Sport The trustees have regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. We aim our direct training at Children, Young People and Adults who are registered as members, we provide premises for social members to congregate, usually the parents and siblings of our younger members. We provide information to parents of our younger members and encourage them to join us as members, we provide information and support to general public on the safe use of the beaches, we support the cleaning of the beach environment and water quality.

Structure, governance and management th Our charity is governed by our constitution last amended on the 8 December 2000. All Trustees (committee members) are elected at the Annual General Meeting by members of Bantham Surf Life Saving Club. Achievements and performance We successfully operated a Surf Life Saving Club made up of Senior, Youth and Nipper memberships. Our youngest members are 7 years old and our Youth st section continues until the age of 18 as at the l January of the membership year and our Social Membership provides for parents and siblings who wished to be connected with us but not directly involved in the training. This year our membership grew at a modest rate to 311 members up from 305 last year. We have increased the number of coaches which in turn secures future potential growth of the club. Senior training sessions for have been well attended this year and this in turn encouraged a small but keen group of Seniors to compete in the SLSGB National Championships at Fistral Beach in September. Senior Sessions have run Monday or Wednesday evenings with a Ladies training session held on a Friday morning for part of the year. Nippers, Youth and young lifeguard trainee crew remain as last year; May to December, Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings. Lifeguard Training courses were covering Seniors and Youth, plus we have another Probationary Trainer/Assessor in the making. Pool sessions were successfully delivered from January to April. These sessions were held at the Quayside Leisure Centre in Kingsbridge and were well attended. We utilise the pool sessions in March to assess the swimming skills of those wishing to join us as it is a safe body of water, we are pleased to report interest in our club keeps growing. Over the year we have trained members for the following awards. Surf Lifeguard, Surf Lifesaver, Rescue Board and Rescue Tube awards, Ski awards and emergency responder units.

Our coaches are trained to Coach Level l and Coach Level 2 as well as Safeguarding training. Our club safeguarding officers have been busy ensuring all those working alongside our Youth and Nipper members have been DBS checked and safeguarding trained. We met the new owner of Bantham Estates (Harry) and welcomed him to the club showing him around the building and taking the opportunity of showcasing our training on a Thursday evening. Once again we opened our training room doors to a local congregation in order they can deliver their Sea Service and have a safe warm space to pray, sing and enjoy a cup of tea. We have opened our Balcony and garage space to Bantham Board Riders occasionally when they host training or local surfing competitions. Despite holding our Open Day later in the year when the majority of the tourists had returned home, we did have a successful Open Day combining it with our Club Championships. We hosted a BBQ, tea and cake stall and our Grand Raffle. Many local businesses gave generous prizes. We provide free water safety cover provided by our qualified members for the famous Pub to Pub annual race which is open to the general public and as a thank you we receive a generous donation from the organiser. Financial Review The club is in a healthy position with a balance at the banks standing at £95,534.39 This is split between two accounts. Natwest for our general day to day running costs at £32,188.89 and Barclays for our reserves and building maintenance fund at £63,345.50 We keep on top of our everyday maintenance repairing and renewing as required. The building maintenance fund is built up to cover repairs and renewals that come with age but are expensive to afford generally ie the roof, the sea defence gabions in front of the clubhouse keeping storms at bay.

Our reserves are built up to cover both the running costs of the club and to increase our resources as we expand our membership and activities. The rolling system of repairing and replacing our training equipment is going well and once again we have been able to purchase additional new equipment assisted by a grant of £14,400 this has already been successful in allowing more members to join and train with us. Our plan to retain at least six months running costs in the bank enables readiness for our busy beach season before all memberships are paid.
