to manage them.
Special educational needs now at 50% of occupancy. Staff are
struggling to teach and deal with a number of needs, including
challenging behaviour.
We have continued contracting speech and language therapists as the
waiting list is currently 12+ months. Also, extra dedicated staff to cope
with the diversity of the children’s needs across the Setting through
higher needs funding.
Lease issue is currently on-going despite correspondence with
landlords. An agreement in principle, which is manageable considering
we thought we would be facing a much higher monthly rent rate.
However, we were informed it would be a 12-month lease only. This is
not feasible for us moving forward with planning improvements,
seeking grants, fundraising goals or the security of jobs for our staff.
Section C Objectives and activities
Summary of the objects of
the charity set out in its
governing document
The aim of Playmates is to enhance the development and education of
children primarily under statutory school age by encouraging parents to
understand and provide for the needs of their children through
community groups.
The objectives are;

offering appropriate play facilities and training courses, together
with the right of parents to take responsibility for and to become
involved in the activities of such groups offering opportunities for
all children, regardless of race, culture, religion or means.

encouraging the study of the needs of such children and their
families and promoting public interest in and recognition of such
needs in the local areas instigating and adhering to and
furthering the aims of the Early Years Alliance.

Summary of the main Preparing our attending children for primary school. We support the

activities undertaken for the children to reach their full potential and with high levels of confidence public benefit in relation to to ensure they know what to expect when starting school and these objects (include within understand what to expect. this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main Our plan to invest in dedicated special needs’ staff to raise children’s
achievement of the charity lack of communication and language and PSE is paying off. .
during the year
Due to the low number of childcare practitioners we have chosen to
invest in two apprenticeships with older teens in the hope that we can
help them to be the best practitioners and form an integral part of our
team.
An efficient procedure for identifying SEN children at the earliest
opportunity and robust support in place has seen all children in our
setting achieving well.
Yet another hefty living wage increase and an increase in employer’s
national insurance contributions saw our running costs increase greatly.
We managed to give our staff a fair rise despite the funding rate
supplied by the LA not reflecting our extra costs.
In April we were instructed we were no longer able to charge
registration/administration fees
Section E Financial review
Brief statement of the Our reserves are prioritised for covering redundancies and notice of
charity’s policy on reserves rent, if we choose to close for any reason.
Any funds outside of this are used to improve the Setting for the
children by updating our provision with new resources, projects and
equipment.
Details of any funds None
materially in deficit
