Observations From Accounts

We have ended the year with more money in the bank due to the planned expedition to Kandersteg in August 2025 and we also had a short time contract for the hall which brought in more money this year. We have also been able to run more camps for the young people this year. I would also like to thank the Charities Trust, Gift Aid donations and Enterprise for their continued support.

This year we received funding to approve the IT equipment within the hut; we have also brought some pizza ovens and paella equipment which is been used by all sections. We have also improved the security system within the hut and brought new fire extinguishers.

Moving Forward

We are going to carry on with the accounts being paperless now.

Myself and the Trustees constantly monitor the costs to ensure that we are still charging the right amount for subs.

This year we will be looking for a new Insurance provider due to the value of items we have on the premises.

Sara Sisson

Chairperson Report

The primary focus for the Trustee Board of 1[st] Priorslee and St Georges Scout Group is to provide a support structure in the forms of funding, maintenance and safety to allow leaders to focus on providing the wide range of activities. We continues to provide this to over 100 young people.

Trustee Board

I would like to thank our Trustees who have been working hard this year to make sure we are compliant with Scouting and Charity rules and regulations. We are working though all the policies and procedures we have and need to have. Routine auditing and checking of the property and utilities continues.

Maintenance Work at HQ

Thanks to Jason, Jonathan and other volunteers who helped keep up with the repairs and maintenance to keep our headquarters at a high standard . I would also like to thank the Explorers and Network who have built the frame for the gateway in the ‘New Area’. As always a massive thank you to Jason, Jonathan and Colin for their regular maintenance of our HQ throughout the year.

Hall Bookings

Louise continues to take many bookings throughout the year for both regular users and occasional users, along working around our scouting dates – so well done Louise for keeping up with it all!

New Equipment

Towards the end of this finance year, we have purchased a new security system, pa system, TVs, door entry system and doorbell. This equipment has been purchased through grants and donations. A big thank you to Sara for applying for the grants, and to Matthew Cooper and Tom Preece who gave up their time to fit the new security system. We have also treated ourselves a new mop and buckets!

Kandersteg

The Trustee board are very excited to be supporting over 40 of our members and leaders who have signed up to an International trip to the permanent Jamboree site in Kandersteg, Switzerland in August 2025. This will be our first International trip as a group.

Beer Festival

Another good year for our Beer Festival with many of our local community coming back to support this annual event, along with some new faces. We’ve also had lots of Scouters attending and enjoying a reunion for those that don’t get to see each other often. Hope to see more of our parents supporting this event.

Closing thoughts

I would like thank all the leaders in every section for their hard work over the year. I would also like to thank the Trustees for their time and support to both me, as Chair and to the group over the year as it grows and develops, their input has been invaluable. The strength of the group is a tribute to the time and thoughtfulness with which all the leaders and Trustees commit and is why 1st Priorslee and St Georges Scout Group is a much sought-after group.

All beavers have achieved a large number of activity badges. The active programme we deliver is based around these badges. All the Beavers moving onto cubs achieved their Chief Scout Bronze award.

Sleepovers were at the HQ and Patshull Activity Centre. We went bowling, visited the Cosford Air Museum and had a day out at Jodrell bank. Some included older beavers first night and all the beavers second night. We average 15 beavers on sleepovers. Younger beavers are encouraged to stay until bedtime if they don’t want to stay overnight. This is encouraging more beavers to try out the weekend activities as often once they have done one sleepover they are keen to do more.

So overall a very successful year. We are now working on a two year rolling programme and leaders are volunteering to arrange and run various activities which is allowing everyone to get fully involved and add more exciting evenings to our evenings. They are all doing a fantastic job in their roles on the leadership team.

Christine Cooper

Cub Report

Our leadership team is Liz (Baloo), David (Jacala), Angela (Raksha), Vicky (Bagheera), Shane (Kaa), Ethan (Rama), Alexy (Chil), Ollie (Tha), Ethan (Ferro), Dylan (Mang), Daniel (Rocky). Our Young Leaders who have helped us out this year are Matthew, Ben and Adam.

We had 25 Cubs at the start of the year and 31 at the end of March 2025.

We have continued to work through many badges which makes up the basis of our programme throughout the year, we have been working on the following:

Activity Badges : Athletics, Chef, Communicator, cyclist, DIY, Environmental Conservation, Gardener, Home Help, Money Skills, Scientist and Space.

Staged Badges : Air Activities, Community Impact, Emergency Aid, Hikes, Navigator, Nights Away and Paddle Sports

Challenge Badges : Adventure, Skills, Personal, Teamwork and Team Leader

To complete these badges we have Cycled from Newport to Gnosall, made a toolbox, learnt about maps and grid references, tried not to be scammed in our make-shift shop, set up a battery recycling box, made things fly, looked at communication methods and the importance of clear instructions. We also went paddle boarding, visited the local Care Home at Christmas, played games and lots more!

The Cub Leaders

Scout Report

Over the past year, the scout group leadership team has delivered a very diverse programme of meetings and activities for the young people. It was designed to develop the skills, confidence, and experiences of our young members. The focus has been on practical learning and fun, with sessions ranging from cooking and shooting to activities in the community.

Among the many highlights were our International Badge Evenings, where Scouts explored global culture , and a memorable visit to the local fire station, offering insights into valuable community service. for a little bit of variety this year we also covered the Astronomy & Astronautics badges, learning about the solar system, navigating by stars, and launching our own rockets.

Throughout the year, we attended several events, Halloween Camp, Remembrance Camp, Spring Camp in Cornel all of which gave the Scouts the chance to build their camping skills, enjoy the outdoors. We also took part in ShropShoot 25 and various community initiatives encouraged teamwork and personal development in a fun and supportive environment, alongside our participation in the St George’s Day Parade.

We are delighted to report that five Chief Scout Awards were presented this year—an outstanding achievement that reflects the dedication and hard work of the recipients. These awards serve as a powerful inspiration for all our Scouts to aim high and stay engaged in the programme.

The Trustees (care of the Treasurer) 1[st] Priorslee and St Georges Scout Group

27 May 2025

Dear Sir or Madam

Please accept the following Independent Examiner Report on the accounts of 1[st] Priorslee and St Georges Scout Group for the year 01 April 2024 to 31 March 2025.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of the 1[st] Priorslee and St Georges Scout Group dated 27/05/2025.

I report on the accounts of the Group for the year ended 31 March 2025 which comprises of the Statement of Financial Activities (Receipts and Payments) and the Statement of Assets & Liabilities.

This report is made solely to the trustees in accordance with Section 145 of the Charities Act 2011. My work has been undertaken so that I might state to the charity’s trustees those matters I am required to state to them in an Independent Examiner’s report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the charity and the charity’s trustees for my examination work.

Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner

The Group’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. They consider that an audit is not required for this year (under Section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act)) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

Basis of Independent Examiner's report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Group and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view, and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Five separate accounts were examined being Group Main, Scouts, Cubs, Beavers and Barclays Business Savings Account. The Squirrels group does not yet have its own Bank Account, the transactions for this have gone through the Group Main Account. This is the seventh time I have examined these accounts and I have done so on a voluntary basis, a charge has been made as agreed with the treasurer for support and advice regarding the presentation and finalisation of the accounts.

Independent Examiner's statement

This year the Accounts are paperless with sheets for each section and files for receipts, hyperlinks for the receipts are next to each transaction. Section sheets are then summarised in the Accounts.

The property was subject to a revaluation three years ago but this was a rebuild revaluation for insurance purposes (rebuild value is £1,000,962), however in the Accounts the value has been left as £420,000.

I can confirm:

1[st] Priorslee and St. Georges Scout GroupRegistered Charity No. 1019340 at

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements

  2. to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 130 of the Charities Act and

  3. to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act have not been met; or

  4. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

Yours faithfully,

Nicola Pulle Accurate Books Ltd
