Objectives and activities

Summary of the purposes of the charity set out in its governing document

To provide a safe, stimulating environment in which children under 5 can play, learn and develop

Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts

Pre-school for children aged two - five in dedicated premises with indoor and ourdoor space available during term time. Toddlers group - Parent or carer and child sessions in Elvington Village Hall with appropriate activities and equiptment, aimed at those with children up to school age in the local area.

The trustees consider that they have complied with their duties to have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission.

Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has 2020-21 financial year saw unprecedented challenges following the coronavirus pandemic and several enforced lockdowns and restrictions throughout the year. Although formats of fundraising changed this year due to these restrictions, the charity was able to hold some events which have raised over £1,577.90 collectively. Toddlers was unable to run during this financial year therefore contributed no income however the preschool continued to be available whenever possible for the community, whilst adhering to the strict guidance of local and national government. We have continued to improved the facebook page through more regular updates and marketing is also done through the local newsletter and village website.

Financial review

Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period

Elvington under 5's is in a positive financial position at the end of March 2021, with funds totally 25,095.29. This is an improvement of £11,243.57 on the previous year. A new committee was appointed at the AGM, which was held slightly later in February 2021, with a new chairman and secretary appointed. Committee meetings and the charitable work of the committee continued, although in a different format to previous years. Income from fees and NEG Funding was down by £5,180 and fundraising was down by £2,480 before donations of £132 but the playgroup was supported by a government grant and furlough wage funding due to the coronavirus impacts, which supported this reduction in income. Overall, running costs were down by £1.999.

Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held

Reserves held to cover redundancy costs should the number of children attending preschool fall low enough to enforce closure. Reserves also support short periods of time when there are less children at the school than meet running costs such as September term. Numbers build again after October half term.

I report on the accounts of: Elvington Under Fives Playgroup (the Charity) for the year ended: 31 March 2021 which are set out on pages 5 to 7.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the Charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
