welfare for visually impaired people in
Bury and the surrounding area, with the

1.19
The main activity of the Club is a weekly
tandem ride of 30-60 miles which takes
place every Sunday starting at 9.30am
from the Club workshop. These are
challenging rides available for blind and

Achievements and Performance

SORP
reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 The Club has continued to organise regular
Sunday rides through the last year with only
a small number unable to take place because
of adverse and/or unsafe weather conditions.
The rides benefit around 10 partially sighted
stokers who ride on the rear of the tandem
and 20 sighted pilots who ride on the front.
All the riders talk of the enjoyment they
derive from the rides with pilots in particular
describing it as a life-changing activity. The
activity delivers benefits for their physical
and mental health as well as being a welcome
social activity. The pilots would maintain that
they derive similar benefits.
The Club has also appeared in local news,
printed and broadcast, raising awareness
among the public in general of the needs,
challenges and achievements of visually
impaired people.
The Club has members from Bury and the
surrounding area and some who travel to the
weekly rides from as far as Stockport.

Financial Review

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 The financial position at the end of
September 2023 was particularly strong
because of a single grant of £15000
received during the year as well as £8000
being donated to the Club from the
fundraising activities of one member.
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 We are reliant on grants to maintain our
financial viability. By their very nature,
these are irregular and some grant
making bodies will not award grants to
charities with too large a bank balance.
The main financial risk to the charity is a
sustained lack of success in applying for
grants
combined
with
reduced
donations. Reserves are held to cover at
least 12 months operational costs to
allow time for fundraising and grant
applications.
Amount of reserves held Para 1.22 Cash in hand at the bank was £30,369 on
30/9/2023, all of which was unrestricted
funds. This is enough to keep the Club
going for about three years with no other
income.
Reasons for holding zero
reserves
Para 1.22 N/A

deficit
Para 1.24 N/A

uncertainties about the
charity continuing as a going
concern
