29[th] Cardiff Scout Group Report 2022-23

Last year continued to be difficult and challenging one for us. There have been many problems, but we have continued to provide a good programme for all sections and this is reflected in our census figures.

  1. Sections – all sections are flourishing – in fact bursting at the seams due to a very active programme, run by a dedicated and committed leadership team. We are under considerable pressure from parents wanting their child to join and they are always surprised when we say we are full. We have some names from birth! We recorded 174 members on this year’s Scout census, 144 youth members + 30 adults. That’s a considerable increase on last year, and the highest number of young people ever...Its 1% of Scouts Cymru members!

In January, Neil Desmond accepted the role of CSL of the Birch colony to work with and eventually replace Marilyn Hendricksen.

As usual, we have lost several leaders due to work commitments or to pursue their university careers in particular Hannah Cole who has helped with the Birch beavers for 3several years..

However, we have been fortunate in gaining Adrienne Titley (Maple Beavers), Mark Thomas (Kingfisher cubs) as section assistants. In addition the website has meant that we have attracted several students from UCC, Avon May & Amelia Jappy with the troop, Florence with Explorers and a Spanish English language student Lucia Montfort who runs a beaver colony in Valencia

We are very grateful to every leader, as it is by their voluntary efforts that the Group is such a success. Although our leadership team is generally up to strength, we always welcome offers of adult assistance.

2. Fund raising –

In 2022 we ran a Fete at scoutbase for the first time, since it moved in 2019 from Victoria Park. The fete was well supported particularly the dog show which had a record number of entries. The fete was very successful raising over £1350 for the Group

In addition we ran Baseball & BBQ event in September, which was also very well supported and then a Bonfire night on 5[th] November, which was well supported, but not as busy as some years

We have been fortunate in gaining the help of Julie Kahar to replace Mary Green as hall bookings secretary and she has been very busy. Since our new website, the bookings have increased considerably, including 3 days during the week and a Channel 4 film company. As there are no WAG grants available this year fund raising has become more important as we have also lost the income from the Scout Post which is now no longer running.

This year the Group Executive decided to charge £105 as the annual subscription, with a £10 rebate for prompt payment. Although a considerable sum of money, especially for families with several children as members, we are still one of the cheaper scout groups in the area. Some parents gave an additional donation for which we are very grateful.

Report to the trustees/ Charity Name members of 29[th] Cardiff Scout Group On accounts for the year Charity no ended[31 December 2022 ] (if any)[1002018 ] Set out on pages 1 to 3 plus section finance reports (remember to include the page numbers of additional sheets) I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31 December 2022. Responsibilties and As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the basis of report accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
