Objectives: The purpose of the organisation is to provide a professionally-run museum which aims to deliver the advancement of aviation heritage within North-East Scotland (and beyond), through maintaining the museum for the benefit of the public - giving access to the collection and to its research, tell the story of Royal Air Force Station Peterhead. it's day-to-day life during World War 2 covering British/Allied Military Operations and Sorties - not just by looking at official records, but also from the viewpoint of service personnel, civilian support staff and the wider local population who were either billeted there or lived nearby from its activation in 1941 till cessation in 1945 and it’s subsequent transformation into a Polish Resettlement Camp during the post-war period 1946-48. By: a) Creating, developing and maintaining a facility, namely the RAF Peterhead Museum & Heritage Society. and b) Offering opportunities for members to undertake and support the ongoing upkeep of the museum - be it associated research, building maintenance, exhibit restoration and cataloging or planning fundraising activities. and c) Develop a platform for the wider community as a whole to understand the key events that happened in WW2, both at home and abroad, that they may have never been aware of in their own backyard, through the museum, touring events with pop-up displays and future interaction with local schools and visiting groups. and d) Developing the airfield site at Longside, by restoring some surviving WW2 key buildings (pill-boxes, blast pens etc), in order to enhance the viewing capacity and allow it to become a “living” museum to the men and women, from all nations and all walks of life, who passed through or operated out of, RAF Peterhead and share their stories with visitors from worldwide.
