An Open Hand is a Christian outreach ministry established in response to a need among some families for support in providing birthday gifts for their children. We aim to provide parents, experiencing financial hardship, with birthday presents they have personally chosen for their child, opening the door to joyful birthday celebrations. We strive to shine God’s light and hope into children’s birthdays, helping create positive memories for the whole family. Referral agencies across Edinburgh apply to An Open Hand. We then call the family before the birthday to find out what they would like to give their child. The gift is delivered directly to the family’s home with wrapping paper, a card and an extra package of books, stationery and games for the whole family to share.
