**What the charity does:** The James M MacLaren Society was established in 2004 to promote and encourage the development of interest in, and protection of, works by James Marjoribanks MacLaren, pioneer Arts &amp; Crafts architect.  The Society holds an annual lecture, in person or online, on some aspect of MacLaren&#x27;s work or his influence on the work of successors.  It also publishes an annual journal of articles regarding MacLaren&#x27;s work and that of his contemporaries and successors in the Arts &amp; Crafts movement. Plans are being developed for events to mark the 175th anniversary of MacLaren&#x27;s birth in 2028.

**Beneficiaries:** &#x27;No specific group, or for the benefit of the community&#x27;

**Objectives:** The organisation’s purposes are: To encourage the development of interest in the work of James Marjoribanks MacLaren, Arts &amp; Crafts architect, and promote the advancement of study and appreciation of his influence and impact on the Arts &amp; Crafts and Scottish vernacular movement. To protect the architectural and social heritage of the work of James M MacLaren.
