Objectives and activity (Continued)

With approximately 25% of the population in Scotland experiencing mental health issues annually (Scottish Health Survey), the need for support has never been more. Strathearn United is the brainchild of John Gordon who saw an opportunity to create a football club in the area which would meet the above objectives, and address some of these challenges.

In the summer of 2024, he sought out interested parties who might be willing to be associated with the club and planning began as to how this might best be achieved through participation in the Warriors Football Association.

The Warriors Football Association is Scotland’s first and only Amateur Football League dedicated to supporting overweight men physically and mentally; offering an outlet to support those facing issues surrounding mental and physical health. The existing Warriors Premiership division consists of twelve teams across the central belt of Scotland, offering the opportunity for participation throughout a range of towns and cities and two further league of 10 teams each fall in under that premier league.

Whether playing, watching, or talking about it, football acts as an excellent escape from dayto-day life, offering people the opportunity to come together with our teammates and fellow fans to enjoy ‘the beautiful game’.

Most will have experienced the many effects of playing football, both physical and mental. This can come in the form of the sore legs after a hectic 90 minutes in the rain, or the feelgood factor after getting the opportunity to see mates on a Sunday for a kick about.

In addition, regular involvement in physical activity has numerous us positive effects on overall well-being, and in the relief of stress, mood enhancement, and self-esteem improvement, by securing an enjoyable space where all can participate in football without fear of judgement or feeling excluded.

Strathearn United was formed under a constitution on 25[th] August 2024. An application was made to secure Charitable Status, and this was granted by The Office of The Scottish Charity Regulator on 13[th] February 2025. Strathearn United FC SCIO now operates under Scottish Charity Number SC053980.

Application was made to join the Warriors Football Association and following appropriate due diligence by them, membership was granted with a view the team beginning in Warriors League One in August 2025.

In autumn 2024 a recruitment campaign for players was launched and training sessions began and have taken place weekly at Strathearn Campus in preparation for the new season.
